2027 Bel Canto Scholarship Recital

Sunday, January 24, 2027 • 4 pm
Cathedral Church of the Nativity, Bethlehem

The Bel Canto season continues with our annual Scholarship Recital, a special performance that shines a spotlight on the dedication and artistry of our young singers. Featuring solos, small ensembles, and other student-led performances, the recital gives Bel Canto members an opportunity to share their individual talents while helping support access to choral education. Proceeds benefit the Bel Canto Scholarship Fund, which helps ensure that financial need is never a barrier for young singers who wish to participate.

Tickets available now at the link in our bio.

🎨🎨 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗿 𝗗𝗮𝘆 🎨🎨 is an opportune time to celebrate everything colorful, including this manuscript (1771–1785) from our collection!

Are the meeting minutes 📜🪶 of the Moravian "Anstalts-Vormünder-Conferenz" inside the volume as exhilarating as the decorative paste paper cover that adorns it? That's for you to decide! Come on by to research this volume (reference number 𝗣𝗛𝗖 𝟮𝟴𝟴) and to read deliberations from those who oversaw the finances of Moravian boarding schools in Nazareth and Bethlehem.

On a fall day (perhaps not unlike today!) over 130 years ago, Eugene Rau traversed Bethlehem’s Sand Island and stood on the banks of the Lehigh River to capture the buildings of the “Iron Works” (later known as the Bethlehem Steel!)

Join us next week for an updated version of Dr. Scott Paul Gordon’s lecture on Moravians in the American Revolution!

The American Revolution put Pennsylvania’s Moravians in a tough place. They wanted to remain neutral, but Patriots demanded that they choose a side and threatened to seize all their property if they didn’t. When military forces—troops on the move, prisoners, injured soldiers—occupied Bethlehem (“engulfed” the small community, Bethlehem’s leader John Ettwein said), Moravians had no choice but to transform the way they lived. These communities did survive these dangerous times, but the Revolution transformed Bethlehem permanently.
