On October 10th, 2026, Benzie County Animal Shelter received a distress call regarding a canine entrapped in a foot trap in Cold Creek, adjacent to US-31 in Beulah. In response, Director and Animal Control Officer Duncan, accompanied by the Benzie County Sheriff's Department, Michigan DNR, Benzonia Station 5, and a US Park Ranger, were dispatched to the scene. Upon determining the dog had spent the entire night in the water and was immobile, Director Duncan and a US Park Ranger bravely entered the water, securing the dog while releasing it from the trap. The Benzie County Sheriff's Department successfully located the dog's owner, who arrived at the scene. The dog was safely transported to land and reunited with its owner, with no major injuries reported. As a precautionary measure, the owner transported the dog to a veterinary clinic. Benzie County Animal Control & Shelter would like to extend its gratitude to all parties involved, as their collaborative efforts resulted in the successful rescue of this canine.**** Please refrain from any negative comments as the owner feels sad enough. Lets rally together and be thankful he made it back home. We appreciate it. Thank you ***
