A Remarkable Save 🚑 ❤️
In early September, Larry drove himself to Billerica Fire Department’s Engine 5 station after realizing something wasn’t right. The E5 crew quickly recognized the seriousness of the situation and called Billerica Paramedics to the station.
Paramedics Shane McKenney and Joanne Lawhon quickly confirmed that Larry was suffering from a heart attack and began the appropriate treatment. Less than a mile into the transport to Lahey, Larry went into cardiac arrest.
Lifesaving measures were initiated immediately. During transport, Larry received 7 shocks, along with multiple emergency medications. Their efforts were so effective that Larry regained consciousness multiple times during the trip to the hospital.
Once at Lahey, Larry underwent cardiac intervention and had 3 stents placed. Remarkably, just four days later, he was discharged from the hospital.
This morning, Larry had the opportunity to reunite with Paramedic McKenney, Paramedic Lawhon and some of the E5 crew members, Capt. Joe Venezia and FF Jamie Burdge.
Outstanding work by the Engine 5 crew, Paramedic Shane McKenney and Paramedic Joanne Lawhon, whose quick recognition, treatment, and teamwork helped give him the best possible chance at an incredible recovery.
Most importantly, we’re very happy to see you doing so well, Larry!
