**FRIENDLY REMINDER: SLOW DOWN. PAY ATTENTION. LIVES DEPEND ON IT.

These photos show the aftermath of an SCBA (Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus) being run over by a vehicle at an emergency scene.

Thankfully, this was equipment and not a firefighter.

When you approach an emergency scene, please remember that firefighters, law enforcement officers, EMS personnel, and other emergency responders may be working just feet away from moving traffic.

We ask every driver to:
- 🚨 Slow down and move over when approaching emergency vehicles.
- 🚨 Stay alert and eliminate distractions.
- 🚨 Follow directions from emergency personnel.
- 🚨 Never drive through an emergency scene unless directed to do so.
- 🚨 Give responders the space they need to work safely.

Remember: Montana law requires drivers to slow down and move over when approaching qualifying emergency vehicles. It's not just a courtesy. It's the law.

An air pack can be replaced. A life cannot.

Our firefighters show up every day to protect your families. Please help protect ours.

Last week, our recruits participated in pitched roof and vertical ventilation training at the Billings Fire Department Training Facility, located at Billings Airport.

As part of their 14 week Recruit Academy, recruits must successfully demonstrate these skills to meet the State of Montana's firefighter certification requirements.

During active structure fires, vertical ventilation is a critical firefighting tactic used to release superheated gases, heat, and smoke from a structure. When performed under the appropriate conditions, this tactic helps improve visibility and interior conditions for firefighters while supporting fire suppression efforts.

This hands-on training provides our recruits with the essential skills and experience needed to safely and effectively respond to structure fires.
