Yesterday evening, your Binghamton firefighters responded to a working fire at 38 Double day street.
The first arriving company found heavy fire in the rear of the building
making its way to the second floor and attic. Fast deployment of a pre-connected hand line began the initial knockdown of this fire.
The next companies to arrive established a water supply, a rapid intervention team, safety officer, and began to search throughout the building for any occupants that may have not gotten out.
Fortunately, all occupants had escaped the fire prior to our arrival.

No surrounding structures ever caught fire, and the majority of the fire was confined to the rear of this building.

We’d like to thank our emergency services partners, the Binghamton Police Department, Superior Ambulance, Broome County, emergency services dispatchers, and Nyseg.

This fire is currently under investigation.

Binghamton Fire here for you 24/7/365.

Members of Squad 21, Tower 21, and Quint 2 recently conducted hands-on training focused on technical elevator rescue operations.

During the training, crews simulated an elevator car-top rescue, utilizing rope rescue equipment to safely lower a firefighter into the elevator shaft to gain access to the top of a stalled elevator car.

This rescue technique may be necessary in an emergency situation when an elevator becomes stuck in a position that prevents firefighters from accessing occupants through conventional elevator rescue methods, such as opening the car doors at a landing.

Crews practiced working together, establishing a safe lowering system, and operating in the confined space of an elevator shaft.

Training on these complex, low-frequency/high-risk incidents helps ensure our personnel are prepared to safely and effectively handle challenging rescue situations when traditional methods are not an option.

Crews quickly made entry and found a coffee roaster to be on fire inside the business. Crews were able to extinguish the fire and remove any affected roaster parts from the building. The building was ventilated and the chimney was assessed for extension up to the roof.

This incident was reported by a bystander. Report any possible fires to 911, 24/7.

Today, members of the Binghamton Fire Department and members of the Pavlick family traveled to Albany for the 29th Annual New York State Fallen Firefighters Memorial Ceremony.

Lieutenant Scott W. Pavlick’s name was added to the Memorial Wall today, recognizing his line of duty death and permanently making his place among the firefighters from across New York State who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

Yesterday, members of the Binghamton Fire Department, both on and off duty, gathered at Fire Headquarters with Mayor Jared Kraham to officially kick off our 5th annual Breast Cancer Awareness Fundraiser.

Throughout the month of October, our on-duty members will wear special breast cancer awareness shirts in place of their regular uniform shirts to help raise awareness and show support for those affected by breast cancer.

Now in our fifth year, this fundraiser has raised more than $6,000 in support of the fight against breast cancer.

We’re proud to continue this tradition and grateful to our members, families, friends, and community who have supported the fundraiser over the past five years.
