Chenango Fire Company provided lunch and dinner today for Broome County Office of Emergency Services dispatchers for National Public Safety Telecommunicators week. We thank you for being the voice behind the radio, and always being there when we call!

Spring is nearly here, and so is the annual burn ban. As the snow melts and temperatures rise, New York State is at an increased risk of wildfires in the spring. In effect from March 16 through May 14, the annual burn ban prohibits residents from burning vegetation and brush with few exceptions.

This afternoon members responded to a box truck rollover on Interstate 81 South into the median. While respondng dispatch updated SQ662 that the truck was carring hazardous materials that could be explosive. The scene was secured and deemed safe. Other agencies that responded were Broome County Sheriff's Office, Broome Volunteer Emergency Squad Inc., Broome County Office of Emergency Services, NYSDOT, and NYSDEC Spill Response.
