Good news! Libby now offers a way for you opt out of AI if you do not wish to have books involving AI recommended to you when you are browsing.
Libby is the service the Four Counties Library System partners with to provide ebooks and audiobooks free with your library card. They have just launched controls to allow users to filter out AI content. Here's how:
1. Log into the Libby app with your library card number and PIN
2. At the bottom of your screen, tap menu (the middle button)
3. Scroll down to the Settings section and tap "Content Controls"
4. Tap AI contributions.
5. Tap "human only" under Text, Audio, Graphic and Translation if you want to completely disallow AI involvement. Choose "Human authors/narrators/artists/translators involved" if your limit is at least one human being allowed.
6. Toggle "Deep search only" off if you want these filters to apply to titles already owned in Libby in addition to ones the library does not own yet. (Side note: deep search enables you to recommend titles for purchase by using the "Notify me" tag- purchasers are able to see how many people have selected the "notify me" tag on a title)
Also new:
- Each title displays AI content disclosures (provided by publishers)
- Readers are able to report content they're concerned is unlabeled AI
- Staff-side tools have been added to assist selectors around the Four Counties Library System recognize AI content when selecting titles for the Libby collection
