This past weekend, UAB Football honored our 100 childhood cancer patients during the 4th annual Smile-A-Mile Childhood Cancer Awareness Game!
 
Each player was paired with a Smile-A-Mile patient and proudly wore their name on the back of their jersey, creating a special tribute to the incredible children and families we serve. 🎗️

SAM Program Highlight: Scholarship Program 💛

At Smile-A-Mile, our mission is to provide hope and healing not only during treatment, but in the years beyond.🎗️That’s why we created our Scholarship Program — to help ease the financial hardships that families face long after treatment has ended.

Since 1999, we’ve provided young adult patients and survivors with scholarships for college, university, and trade school.

And thanks to our donors, volunteers, healthcare professionals, and supporters, to date, we’ve given over $1.2 million in scholarships!

We are so proud of each of our recipients! 💛 And we can’t wait to see all they achieve in the years ahead!

SAM Program Highlight: Regional Programs 💛

Did you know that certain regions in Alabama have significantly higher numbers of children and families affected by childhood cancer? At Smile-A-Mile, we support these families by offering programs in their local communities!

Our regional programs are one-day events designed to reach families throughout Alabama. These events often feature activities such as Alabama, Auburn, and UAB sporting events, the National Peanut Festival, the Alabama Shakespeare Festival, and much more!

We had so much fun celebrating the first day of fall with our young adults at The Next Mile’s “Sips in September” event! ☕

The Next Mile is our recently revamped young adult program, empowering adolescents and young adults impacted by cancer to grow, lead, and thrive. 💪 It was so special to spend an evening together enjoying coffee, conversation, crafts, games, and plenty of fellowship. 💛

We took this time to give back during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month by writing letters of encouragement for others in the childhood cancer community. It was the perfect way to welcome a new season while making a difference together!

We are so grateful for everyone who joined us and helped make the evening so meaningful. Here’s to more opportunities to connect, create, and give back through The Next Mile! 🫶
