The Birmingham Civitan Club is a service organization founded in 1917 that emphasizes helping people with brain disorders and developmental disabilities.

The club sponsors the UAB Civitan International Research Center. The Civitan Club was founded in Birmingham, Alabama in 1917. Its founder and first president was Dr. Courteny W. Shropshire, a prominent Birmingham physician. As a result the Birmingham Civitan Club is now known as the 'Mother Club of Civitan International'. This summer our club took on the responsibility of being the snack sponsor of the month for the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Alabama Family Room!The RMHCA Family Room is located at UAB Hospital and serves as an escape for families with babies in the NICU. We are proud to partner with this great organization and support those families in this way!

Members volunteered today to set up for Exceptional Prom, a dance event for students in the special education programs at Jefferson County Schools. More than 600 students are expected tomorrow at the Finley Center. We are Civitan!

Our March meeting took us for a sweet tour! The founder and staff of Ady’s Army showed off their new BIG project…three different enterprises where adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities can share their talents and make a living. One of those is a fudge kitchen!!! Yum!

Thanks to Gary Cosby with the Alabama Federation of Fire Chaplains for speaking at our Clergy Appreciation Service today! The group is always looking for new chaplains to help the community in times of emergency. Our next meeting is March 3rd.
