What happens when a curious kid gets lost in the jungle? A whole lot of fun! This summer, Birmingham Children’s Theatre is bringing The Jungle Book to life with Birmingham Public Libraries — for free!
Your family will be on the edge of your seats as Mowgli befriends Baloo the Bear and Bagheera the panther, outwits a gang of sneaky monkeys, and comes face-to-face with the fierce tiger, Shere Khan, in this fast-paced retelling of the classic Rudyard Kipling tales. It's a perfect outing for young adventurers — no tickets, no fuss, just great live theatre at your neighborhood library this June and July.
Performances are:
Saturday, June 20th at BPL Central Branch
Saturday, June 27th at Five Points West
Saturday, July 11th at Springville Road
Saturday, July 18th at Avondale Library
Saturday, July 25th at BPL Central Branch
There is limited space available at some of our locations so grab your tickets early!

This month, the Five Points West Library staff had the chance to support learning in two different ways! At the Central Park Elementary Career Fair, we met with 148 students to talk about what librarians do, the many different career paths, and what the local library offers them!
We also visited Beyond the Bell, an afterschool program at one of our sister libraries, and helped with programming for 20 lower elementary students! While there were plenty of fun activities, one librarian favorite started with a collapsing magnetic tile mansion. After repeated second-floor failures, a frustrated builder got a quick lesson on load-bearing walls. A few design changes changes later, the house was standing strong!
From career exploration to hands-on problem solving, we love helping kids discover new and exciting things even in unexpected ways!

Who said you can’t do a perfect Warrior One Yoga pose while seated in a chair? Not I! Following a relaxing yoga session, participants continued the afternoon with a fun and creative coaster-painting activity. Using an array of vibrant colors and unique coaster designs, everyone added their own personal touch to their coasters. The afternoon was filled with relaxation, creativity, and plenty of smiles. Also, if you look closely in the audience, you may spot a special guest… shh, it’s Monica!

After an upbeat chair aerobics class with Ms. Myra, some of the ladies challenged their creativity by decorating Diamond Art Leather Bookmarks with sparkling gems. While the craft took patience and focus, the beautifully finished bookmarks made every moment worth it. Throughout the activity, the room was filled with encouraging words and laughter as everyone came together to create something special.
