The 100 Alabama Miles Challenge is a FREE public program designed to inspire ALL
Alabama residents to get 100 miles of activity in each year whether they run, walk, hike, bike, swim, paddle, ride or roll.

This program is available to help you encourage your community members to use and
enjoy your parks and green spaces. Currently in our 8th year, over 7,700 Alabama residents have logged over 290,000 miles since the program’s debut in 2018!

The University of Alabama Center for Economic Development (UACED) and our program
partners invite your community to sign up to host a 100 Alabama Miles Challenge public
engagement event during the official statewide 2025 season kickoff taking place
on Saturday, April 26 or on another day of your choosing.

Your event can be as simple or elaborate as you would like, but in general, we ask that each community do the following:

• Identify a location, date and time;
• Promote the event to the public through your communications channels;
• Host a “ceremonial” 1-mile (or more) walk, bike ride, paddle, etc.;
• Give out program tee shirts and decals (supplied free by UACED); and
• Provide a brief orientation to the event attendees on how to participate in the program (script/talking points will be provided)

If you sign up for this FREE program, UACED will send you:

• 50 program tee shirts
• 100+ decals
• An event banner
• Electronic communications packet that includes suggested event agenda, talking points, program poster, and suggested press release and social media posts

UACED will also be happy to promote your event through the program’s social media
platforms!

If you would like to register to host an event, please send an email to: [email protected] by Wednesday, February 12 expressing your interest, and she will follow up with you to get your event information, drop ship address, etc. (no P.O. Box).

Joey Dumas, winner of the National Auto Sport Assoc. Championship at Daytona Intl Speedway, was honored at a special ceremony by Governor Kay Ivey earlier this month with a Proclamation passed by the House and Senate recognizing Joey for his outstanding accomplishments in Motor Sports. Attending along with Governor Kay Ivey and Joey Dumas, were Joey's wife Kelli, long time friend Navan Ward, Jr., Johnny Mack Morrow and wife Martha, Joey's lifelong friend Representative Shane Stringer- District 102, Phil Holmes and former Sec. of State Beth Chapman with a special thank you to Rep. Harry Shiver of Bay Minette. Joey is an amazing person with incredible accomplishments and a life story that is a true testament of what can be accomplished through hard work and dedication when chasing down a dream regardless of the odds. The Governor's Commission on Physical Fitness and Sports also honored Joey with the State Leadership Award for Outstanding Achievement in Sports and Fitness for Alabama. We will be working with Joey in the coming months to help bring awareness to pathways and opportunities for Alabama's youth and communities across the state in the field of sports and fitness. We are very excited about this opportunity to work with not only a National Champion in racing but an even better person!! Congrats again Joey on your championship and for representing our state so well!!🏆
