🪧 Join us TOMORROW to tell the Trump administration HANDS OFF VENEZUELA! Come early at 2pm for sign-making. 🪧 RSVP at https://bhamdsa.org/handsoffvenezuela/
The Birmingham Chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), Alabama 50501, Food Not Bombs Birmingham, the Birmingham branch of the Party for Socialism and Liberation (PSL), and local solidarity organizations will gather at the Five Points South fountain on Sunday, January 4th at 3:00pm for a protest condemning the Trump administration’s illegal war in Venezuela, the bombings of the Venezuelan people, and the abduction of Venezuelan President Maduro and First Lady Cilia Flores.
âť“ What is happening?
On the morning of January 3rd, the Trump administration bombed locations across the Venezuelan capital of Caracas and abducted Venezuelan President Maduro in a naked attempt at regime change. These attacks continue Trump’s illegal war on Venezuela, which began with bombings and seizures of Venezuelan vessels in the Caribbean for months. Trump’s war on Venezuela aims to control Venezuela’s oil resources through illegal military force and with the help of U.S. energy corporations.
The Trump administration claims these military actions, as well as extrajudicial and illegal bombings and seizures of boats in the Caribbean, are to fight “narco-terrorism” and stop drugs entering the U.S. But Trump and his regime officials have repeatedly emphasized that U.S. control of Venezuelan oil, as well as U.S. domination of Latin America as a whole, are their primary motivation.
🌹 We can fight back!
We call on all people of conscience in Alabama to speak out firmly against U.S. aggression and this illegal war in Venezuela, to join local demonstrations and organizations that are demanding an end to this violence, and to demand that Congressional representatives refuse to fund or support another illegal war for oil.

Come 2026, anywhere from 5-10 million people across the U.S. could lose their healthcare coverage due to sweeping federal changes. In Alabama, approximately 130,000 people could be impacted.
Let's be clear: the Trump administration's escalating war on healthcare was made possible by the Democrats' surrender following their failed government shutdown tactic. New Medicaid work requirements, rising premiums, and the expiration of Affordable Care Act subsidies will stand
to have disastrous impacts for poor and working class people across the country.
Healthcare should be a fundamental public human right, especially in the richest country in the history of the world - not a luxury to be bought and sought for billionaires to make more profits. Hands off our healthcare!

In just days, 40 million people across the U.S. - 752,000 in Alabama - will lose their SNAP benefits as part of the ongoing government shutdown.
Trump's attack on the basic human need to eat is part of the ongoing war his administration is waging on working class people. The cuts to food stamps are directly tied to the attempts to cut Medicaid and other healthcare subsidies that millions of people rely on.
Food and healthcare should be fundamental human rights - not luxuries to be bought and sought for billionaires to make more profits.
Hands off our food stamps! Hands off our healthcare!

"Trump justified his takeover using extreme racist rhetoric designed to demonize Black youth. Trump talked about mythical “roving mobs of wild youth” and “caravans of masked youth rampaging through the streets”. Crime is in fact significantly declining in DC and many other major cities across the country, part of a nationwide trend that’s been observable for at least two years now. The Trump administration is constructing a false reality using the most obvious racist dog whistles in the book to justify the expansion of police powers and his own power."
PSL Statement: Stop Trump’s racist, police state takeover of DC! - Liberation News
Trump’s takeover of Washington, D.C. is his latest step towards imposing a police state where civil

Join the Birmingham branch of the Party for Socialism and Liberation in a study and discussion on policing and what it would look like if socialists were to come to power.
This subject is heavy on the minds of many as we deal with the constant threat of police violence from ICE and law enforcement. So, what would we do differently? What else should be considered? These are the questions we want to raise this Saturday. We hope everyone who has a concern for justice will be able to attend and take a step forward in the fight for liberation!
