📚 Since opening its doors in Woodlawn in 2011, the YWCA Family Resource Center (FRC) has been a place of hope and opportunity for families in our community.
Through education support, outreach, case management, career readiness training, and life-advancing programs, the FRC equips women, men, and teens with the tools they need to succeed. Our focus areas include:
✔️ GED prep & tutoring
✔️ Multi-generational and parenting support programs
✔️ Self-worth and social justice initiatives
✔️ Financial literacy and personalized client services
✔️ Community outreach and resource connections
In 2024, the FRC collaborated with 22 community partners to provide jobs, training, and resources that empower families to thrive.
✨ This is our why: the women, men, and teens who receive support to strengthen their family’s ability to succeed in life.

HAPPY TUESDAY BHAM‼️ Let’s play a little catch up…

📍Last Tuesday Family Resource Center team had the extreme pleasure of sharing about FRC programming with some community partners at the DHR JOBS Advisory Board meeting.

🏡 The JOBS Advisory Board consists of members from the community who work for government agencies, nonprofit and a few for-profit businesses. The board meets twice a year to discuss ways to better serve clients. The Department of Human Resources administers several programs, including TANF, SNAP, JOBS, Child Support, Child Protective Services, and Adult Protection Services.

🫶🏾 A special THANK YOU to Ty Evans (Program Manager, Family Assistance and JOBS Program at Jefferson County DHR), and Dietriche Arnold Nolan (JOBS Advisory Board Vice President) for having our team present!

🧡 That following Friday, we also joined our Child Development Center, the Domestic Violence Services departments, plus some special guests for a walk around the block in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month & Domestic Violence Awareness Month 💖💜

Happy Tuesday BHAM ‼️

Community is defined as: “a feeling of fellowship with others, as a result of sharing common attitudes, interests, and goals.”

Last Saturday, YWCA Central Alabama () Family Resource Center in partnership with Girls Inc. of Central Alabama () hosted our first Girls Mentoring session of the 2025-2026 season!

Amongst conversations on uniqueness, self-identity, and a few rounds of Fly Girl Bingo, we were thrilled to expand our community with some of Birmingham’s coolest young ladies.

Young ladies such as Breaja (slide 1), an outstanding Birmingham City School scholar, who has participated in multiple Family Resource Center programs over the years.

Though we do this work daily, it’s students like Breaja who remind us that community is key in creating the best version of the world we all deserve 🧡

From career readiness and GED prep to empowerment programs and community support, the Family Resource Center is dedicated to creating pathways for women, men, and families to thrive.

💡 This is our why: investing in women and girls builds stronger families, stronger communities, and a brighter future for us all.
