SEAGO/Area Agency on Aging The SEAGO Area Agency on Aging serves people who are age 60 and over and/or their family members and disabled adults by providing information and assistance.
(1)

Area Agencies on Aging (AAA) were established through the Older Americans Act amendments of 1973 in order to provide a local structure for addressing the needs and concerns of older persons. Nationwide there are 629 Area Agencies on Aging, 57 State Units on Aging and innumerable local service providers which together with the federal Administration on Aging constitute the National Aging Network. The SEAGO Area Agency on Aging serves people who are age 60 and over and/or their family members and a limited number of disabled adults by providing information and assistance in accessing services that will help older adults stay in their own homes and communities. The goal of an Area Agency on Aging is to enable older people to maintain maximum independence and dignity in the least restrictive environment. The amount of assistance that is provided is dependent upon the needs of the older adult. These services can be short-term (such as getting signed up for a prescription drug program) or long-term (such as someone who is frail or who has a chronic health condition receiving ongoing monitoring and support from a Case Manager) and anywhere in between. Examples of community-based services include: congregate and home delivered meals, caregiver support, case management, housekeeping, personal care and help with benefit questions. Many of these services are provided on a donation basis and are delivered at the local level

🗣️ Could changes in your voice be an early clue to cognitive changes?

A new study has researchers looking more closely at the connection between voice changes and dementia.

Researchers found that older adults with certain voice disorders had a higher likelihood of developing cognitive impairment or dementia later on. The association was particularly notable when voice changes occurred alongside hearing loss.

⚠️ But don’t panic over a raspy voice! A change in your voice does not mean that you have dementia. Voice changes can happen for many reasons, including aging, allergies, reflux, medications, smoking, infections, and other health conditions.

The important takeaway is to pay attention to new or persistent changes. If you or someone you care for experiences ongoing changes in speech, voice, hearing, memory, or thinking, it may be worth discussing them with a healthcare professional.

Sometimes, paying attention to small changes can help us recognize when it’s time to ask questions. ❤️

📖 Read the Newsweek article and watch the video: “Voice Changes May Be an Early Sign of Dementia, Study Finds.”

Subtle changes in speech may reveal clues about future brain health, but experts say the finding raises questions—not a diagnosis.
