North Dakota is making history in the skies, and the work behind it is getting national attention!

Our state recently became the first non-federal entity in the nation to access unfiltered FAA radar data for advanced drone operations, helping pave the way for safer, long-distance flights through Vantis, North Dakota’s statewide UAS system.

There’s more to celebrate! North Dakota received a 2026 Government Experience (GovX) Award from the Center for Digital Government for Vantis: Expanding What Government Can Do for North Dakota Communities. The award recognizes innovative approaches to making government services more accessible, efficient, and responsive.

We’re proud of the role NDIT played in building the secure digital infrastructure behind this milestone, working alongside the Northern Plains UAS Test Site, North Dakota Department of Commerce, Thales, and other partners to help innovation take flight.
