🐾 A Friendly Reminder for Dog Owners! 🐾

As you enjoy Bismarck’s walking trails, parks, and shared outdoor spaces, please remember to keep your dogs on a leash unless you are in a designated off-leash area.

Keeping your dog leashed helps protect other residents, children, other pets, and your own dog. Even friendly dogs can react unexpectedly, and not everyone feels comfortable around unleashed animals.

Please help us keep our community safe and enjoyable for everyone by remembering to:

🐕 Keep your dog on a leash in areas where leashes are required.
💩 Clean up after your pet.
🤝 Respect other trail users and their space.
🐾 Maintain control of your dog and be mindful of others.

Leash laws are in place for everyone's safety. Please refer to the Bismarck City Ordinance 3-03-05 Running at Large Prohibited - Wastes and 3-01-01 number 8 At Large.

Thank you for doing your part to keep Bismarck a safe and welcoming community for all!

Bismarck Police Update Investigation into Fatal October 2nd Crash

BISMARCK, N.D. – A second person has died from injuries sustained in the fatal crash on October 2nd at the intersection of West Main Ave and Missouri Ave. Benjamin Moch, 17, of Mandan, died yesterday afternoon, October 5th, at a local hospital.

The crash occurred at approximately 8:35 p.m. According to the preliminary investigation, Cameron Schestler, 19, of Bismarck, was traveling westbound on Main Avenue at an extremely high rate of speed while allegedly racing another vehicle. The Infiniti Schestler was driving struck a Chevrolet Equinox as it was turning left onto Missouri Avenue.

Benjamin Moch was a passenger in the Equinox and was ejected during the crash. He had remained hospitalized in serious condition before dying from his injuries. Taylor Fisher, 16, of Mandan, was also a passenger in the Equinox and died from injuries sustained in the crash.

The Equinox was driven by a 15-year-old boy from Mandan, who is expected to recover. Schestler suffered severe injuries and is expected to recover.

Bismarck Police continue to investigate the circumstances of the collision, including a complete reconstruction of the crash. The racing allegation and other investigative findings remain preliminary, and any potential charges remain under investigation.

Bismarck Police Investigate Fatal October 2 Crash

BISMARCK, N.D. – A 16-year-old Mandan girl died after a two-vehicle crash Friday night at the intersection of West Main Avenue and Missouri Avenue.

Officers responded to the crash around 8:35 p.m. on October 2. The two-vehicle crash happened when a westbound Infiniti crashed into the passenger side of a Chevy Equinox making a left turn from West Main Ave onto Missouri Ave. The Infiniti had a lone driver, and the Equinox had three occupants.

Several people were injured in the crash, and the 16-year-old died at a local hospital. Next of kin notifications are ongoing with the family.

Initial investigation by Bismarck Police Departments Traffic Unit leads investigators to believe speed was a factor, but the crash remains under investigation.

Additional information will be released on Monday October 5, 2026, while investigators continue to review the crash and to allow the 16-year-olds family time to make notifications.

Bismarck Police Respond to Hoax Threat at Bismarck High School

BISMARCK, N.D. – Around 1:15 p.m., the Bismarck Police Department received a call reporting an emergency situation at Bismarck High School. Due to the urgent nature of the call, it was immediately transferred to Central Dakota Communications.
The caller claimed that she was hiding in a bathroom and claimed that her boyfriend was in the school parking lot threatening her with a gun and bomb. Officers were immediately dispatched to the area, and coordinated sweeps of both the school and parking lot were conducted. No evidence of any threat, weapon, or suspicious device was found.
Investigators determined the call originated from Voice Over Internet Protocol number (VOIP). A VOIP number is an internet-based phone service that allows calls to be made through an app or computer rather than a physical phone. These services can obscure the caller’s true location, making it easier for individuals to place deceptive or anonymous calls.
We also learned that Mandan High School received a nearly identical threat with similar details and delivery methods. Given the parallels between the two calls and the lack of any credible danger, Bismarck Police Department strongly believes this was a “swatting” attempt to cause fear and disruption.
The case remains under active investigation and Bismarck Police Department thanks school staff, students, and families for the cooperation as officers ensured everyone’s safety.

09/30/2026

Bismarck Police Department is on scene at Bismarck High School and has completed a full sweep of the parking lot and school. Officers did not locate anything suspicious and do not believe there is any threat to students or staff.
The incident is most likely to be a swatting call — a false report of a serious emergency intended to trigger a large law enforcement response.
We appreciate the cooperation of students, staff, and families as we worked to ensure everyone’s safety. Further updates will be shared if needed.

Bismarck Police Department is on scene and actively investigating the incident. Preliminary indications based on our interaction with the caller suggest this may be a “swatting” incident; however, out of an abundance of caution, we are taking all necessary steps to confirm the situation and ensure the safety of students and staff.

Updates will be provided following our investigation and all information will be shared with Bismarck Public Schools.

(Update: Shelter-in-place has ended.)

Attention:

Bismarck High School is currently in a shelter-in-place after the Bismarck Police Department received a call from an individual who shared a safety concern.

At this time, we do not have information confirming that there is an active threat to the school. Out of an abundance of caution, the school immediately initiated its shelter-in-place procedures and is working directly with the Bismarck Police Department to investigate the concern. During a shelter-in-place, students remain in their classroom and continue to receive instruction.

Families may notice a heightened law enforcement presence at Bismarck High School while this situation is being assessed.

We understand that situations like this can be concerning for families. Student and staff safety remains our highest priority, and we will provide additional information as it becomes available.
