Tonight, members of the Blacksburg Fire Department joined our Eastside partners for hands-on training focused on fireground search operations.

This training is part of a month-long collaborative training evolution designed to strengthen communication, coordination, and teamwork among our departments. By training together, our firefighters have the opportunity to build familiarity with one another’s tactics and procedures, improve operational effectiveness, and prepare to work seamlessly alongside each other during emergency incidents.

Fireground search operations are a critical component of firefighting, requiring sound decision-making, effective communication, and coordinated teamwork in challenging conditions. Opportunities like this allow our personnel to sharpen those skills while strengthening the relationships between our departments.

We appreciate all the departments that came together for their continued partnership and the dedication of all the firefighters who took part in tonight’s training. When we train together, we respond together, and our communities are better served because of it.

Congratulations to the Town of Blacksburg ! Currently the downtown portion of Blacksburg is seeing gas line, water line and sewer line upgrades in many areas, as well as power line upgrades. Soon you’ll see the Highway 29 bridge on the eastern side of town replaced. Now it’s been announced that a downtown renovation project will begin in the near future. This will all be done in phases. Please use caution when traveling through town and the many work sites you’ll encounter. All of these projects are part of preparing our community for the future. Pardon the mess, but it’s all a part of progress…..

Today, members of the Blacksburg Volunteer Fire Department, along with neighboring departments and community supporters, gathered at the Blacksburg High School Football Stadium for the Blacksburg 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb.

Together, participants took on the challenge of climbing 2,071 stairs, the equivalent of the 110 stories of the World Trade Center towers, to honor the 343 firefighters, 71 law enforcement officers, 55 military personnel, and thousands of innocent lives lost on September 11, 2001.

A special thank you to Kelli Earls Marquez for organizing this incredible event and bringing our community together to preserve the promise to Never Forget. We also want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Corinth VFD Chief Dwight Easler for serving as today’s guest speaker and sharing inspiring words during the kick-off ceremony.

Thank you to every firefighter, first responder, family member, and citizen who came out to climb, cheer, donate, and remember. All proceeds raised directly support the four local volunteer stations serving Blacksburg— Antioch, Blacksburg, Buffalo, and CKC Volunteer Fire Departments.

We climb because they climbed. We remember, today and always.
