People ask us a lot what makes green burial unique. There are a lot of answers to that question- among them is the aspect of safety people feel among the tree. On a recent recent tour with The Charlotte Ledger, our director was able to share a little about that.

This Week’s Episode of Spotlight Now is Here!

This week’s episode of Spotlight Now features Amanda Peckman of Kings Mountain Preserve in Blacksburg, South Carolina. Tune in to discover how Kings Mountain Preserve is preserving wild landscapes through conservation burial, transforming remembrance into a lasting act of stewardship.

About Our Guest:
Amanda Peckman serves as the Director of Kings Mountain Preserve, a conservation green cemetery. Amanda’s friends would describe her as a lifelong learner, an empathetic conversationalist, and a passionate advocate. She lives and loves in North Carolina with her husband and their 3 children. You can find Amanda outside playing with her kids, gardening, and hiking. You may also find her inside hosting community gatherings, developing a new recipe, or in deep conversation - either with people or through reading a book. She is an authentic individual, driven by her faith and love.
She became interested in all things green burial when she saw how much her love for people and nature intersected in the practices found within conservation burial. Death has always been a prominent presence in her life. Experiencing the mark of grief on her family from a young age has made her sensitive to the fragility of life.

Events are happening, and we just want to say: our Forest Chapel, hand-crafted cedar benches and all, is out here absolutely thriving. 🌿

Fifty guests surrounded by hardwood trees? That is a vibe no event hall can replicate.

The Pavilion is pretty stunning, too, in case you need options. Just saying. 💚

Summer officially begins and the Preserve is putting on a show. 🌸

Wildflowers along Kings Creek. Birdsong in the hardwoods. The kind of stillness that makes you stop mid-step just to breathe it in.

We joke that the land does most of our marketing for us, and honestly, we are not wrong. If you have been curious about what a conservation green cemetery actually looks and feels like, this is the season to come find out.

Schedule a tour and let the Preserve speak for itself. 🦋

Choosing a burial container matters more than most people realize. 🌱

Here's a quick guide to biodegradable options accepted at a conservation green cemetery:

- Shroud: A simple, natural-fiber wrap and the most traditional ecological option
- Pine or cedar casket: A beautiful choice that returns to the earth naturally
- Wicker basket: Woven, organic, and graceful

All of these options eliminate the need for a vault, allow natural decomposition, and honor God's green earth in a way a conventional casket simply cannot.

Talk to our team about which option feels right for your family. 🌿

Conventional burial in the U.S. relies on embalming fluid, steel, and vast amounts of concrete. 🌍

Conservation green burial sidesteps all of it. No chemicals entering the soil. No non-biodegradable materials left underground. Just a body returning to earth the way nature intended, contributing to the ecosystem rather than impeding it.

The environmental difference is real.
