⚠ Football Ticket Scams Alert ⚠ VTPD continues to receive reports of scams involving football ticket sales.
Scammers have been utilizing unofficial Virginia Tech group chats on GroupMe such as “Official VT Ticket HUB” or “VT Student Ticket Exchange Hub” to fraudulently sell Virginia Tech Football Tickets.
Payment is typically requested through an electronic payment service or app by “admins” of the group. The victim is then told they are part of a batch of tickets to be sent out. The money is taken without the tickets ever being sent.
In the past, scammers used fraudulently obtained pictures of Hokie Passports as proof the scammer is a student.
🎟 Purchase tickets from official vendors. SeatGeek.com is the official ticketing partner of Virginia Tech Athletics.
📱 Know that there are very few “printed” tickets. Most tickets to Virginia Tech athletic events are electronic and must be transferred.
📸 Never post or share an image of your ticket as it opens you up to fraud and copying.
