A strong nor’easter is expected to bring heavy rain and strong winds to our area this weekend. Please take time now to prepare for possible power outages, downed trees, and hazardous travel conditions.

If you lose power or internet service, please do not call the Police Department or 9-1-1 to report the outage. Power outages should be reported directly to National Grid at 1-800-464-1212. You can also view current outage information on National Grid’s Massachusetts Outage Map: National Grid Outage Map

Please secure outdoor items, charge phones and backup batteries, avoid flooded roadways, and stay well away from downed wires. Always assume any downed power line is energized.

Stay safe and monitor official weather and emergency updates throughout the storm.

🎒 BACK TO SCHOOL SAFETY REMINDER 🚸

As students head back to school, the Blackstone Police Department is asking everyone to use extra caution during their morning and afternoon commutes.

Please remember:

* Slow down in school zones — the speed limit is 20 MPH.
* Extra patrols will be out monitoring traffic and helping keep our students safe.
* Watch carefully for children walking to and from school and waiting at bus stops.
* Pay close attention to school bus flashing lights and extended stop signs. When the red lights are flashing and the stop sign is out, STOP.
* Be prepared for an increase in morning traffic and allow yourself extra travel time.
* Stay alert, avoid distractions, and use extra caution around schools, crosswalks, and bus stops.

A few extra minutes of patience can help make sure everyone gets to school and home safely.

Thank you for doing your part to keep our students and community safe!
