The Blackstone Public Library provides materials and services to all patrons in their pursuit of informational and recreational enrichment. The library strives to inspire all patrons toward a love of reading and learning and actively supports and cooperates with our school libraries. The Blackstone Public Library is dedicated to being an integral part of the community where people of all ages can meet in a friendly, accessible, and comfortable environment. The Blackstone Free Public Library opened its doors on July 20, 1889, with a transfer of books from the former Blackstone Athenaeum and Library Association. For many years, library stations were maintained in Millville and Blackstone. Shelf space was rented in private homes with paid district carriers transporting books to these locations. In the mid 1930s, the library moved to the Town Hall on St. Paul Street. By 1978, the library occupied 1,374 square feet of the lower level. The need for a larger library became apparent as the town grew. A Planning and Design Grant was submitted to the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners in 1999, followed by a Library Construction Grant in 2001. Both grants were awarded with the balance of funds approved by the voters of the Town of Blackstone. The Grand Opening Ceremony took place on June 13, 2004.

How to filter out AI content in Library:
In Libby, users can set their preferences for discovering titles with AI contributions via a new Content Controls menu.
This menu will present AI contribution choices in four different categories: text, audio, graphics, and translation. Each category has several options, so that people can find the right balance for them.
AI Content Controls apply to all titles in Libby, whether you’re browsing or searching. For example, if a user disallows AI audio in Libby, all AI narrators will be filtered out of search results and library lists.

In honor of Friends of the Library week, the Blackstone Library staff and trustees would like to personally thank our Friends of the Blackstone Public Library organization for their never-ending fundraising efforts. If you've attended a library program, you've likely heard us say, "We'd like to thank the Friends of the Library for funding this event". While you may not know these hardworking individuals by name, they are constantly working behind the scenes in numerous ways; organizing book sales, hosting the annual fundraising event at Goodstuff Smokehouse, funding craft supplies, snacks and prizes, and picking up donations of textiles for the Savers drive. We salute them for their contributions to our library community!

Michael LePage as John Adams
Tuesday, November 17 at 6:30 PM.

It is 1802 and John Adams has been home for a year. He has had plenty of time to think about the causes of his defeat in the Election of 1800. Party politics, negative journalism, and a certain former Secretary of the Treasury all weigh heavily on his mind. The need for vindication for a public life of service is needed and the second President of the United States is more than willing to discuss it. President Adams will speak of his early days as a lawyer and family man, his time in the Continental Congress leading the charge for independence, his time in Europe securing loans and peace, and his time in the new republic serving as Vice President, and then as President, keeping America out of a war with France. Of course, no discussion can be had without extolling the virtues of his dear wife Abigail, and her wisdom.

Registration is required. Visit our Events Page. Call the Blackstone Public Library at 508-883-1931 for more information.

This program is funded by the IMLS 250 Library Convening Stipend.
