Family and friends of Charlie Company, your soldiers absolutely dominated this past drill weekend!!
The 1-114th IN BN hosted the very first “Battalion Best Squad Competition.” Infantry Squads from across the battalion went head to head and competed against each other in various individual and collective tasks. Soldiers needed to demonstrate their mastery of infantry skills and their ability to effectively shoot, move and communicate as members of a cohesive team.
Following this eventful three day competition our Centurions ended up on top!!! Congratulations to SSG Feery and the members of 1st Squad, 1st Platoon on dominating the competition. Outstanding job by all members of Charlie Company and all soldiers within the battalion.

CENTURIONS
I want to thank all of the family members and friends that were able to attend with our soldiers Saturday evening. Your support and unwavering commitment to your soldiers enables our ability to be successful. It’s important for us to come together on occasions like this. To not only celebrate the holidays but also celebrate the closing of this training year. Your soldiers have done an amazing job this year.
As we move into 2026, our focus will continue on individual training. Getting back to the basics and mastering our craft as infantrymen. Building our readiness to execute the missions we are called upon to do, anytime, anywhere.
I wish a Merry Christmas and a Happy Holidays from our Centurion Family to yours.

CENTURIONS!
Another drill weekend complete and the soldiers of Charlie Company got after it!! This past weekend we continued to work on important fundamentals of being an infantryman. It starts with being an expert in the basics.
Soldiers trained and practiced weapons disassembly and reassembly of heavy and light machine guns. Our soldiers also got back to the Range and qualified on their individual weapon systems.
Sunday our soldiers demonstrated their physical fitness capability by conducting the Army Fitness Test. An important aspect of all soldiers is being physically and mentally fit in order to perform as effective members of this team. Shout out to 2LT Colombo and 2LT Derosa for scoring a perfect score of 500.
I would also like to recognize some important soldier achievments from this weekend. PRIVATE KEYS was promoted the rank of Private First Class and PRIVATE FIRST CLASS FIGUEROA was promoted to the rank of Specialist. SSG SMITH had the honor of receiving the Order of St. Maurice, bestowed by the National Infantry Assoction and Chief of the Infantry, an award recognizing his significant contributions to the Infantry Community.
Lastly, we said goodbye to an absolute legend. 1SG Gregory Flynn took his final formation at Charlie Company as he heads toward his military retirement. 1SG Flynn, thank you for your leadership and unwavering dedication to the men and women of Charlie Company, 1-114th Infantry Battalion and the New Jersey Army National Guard. We welcome 1SG Jenczelewski as he takes over as Charlie Companies new First Sergeant!!
Centurions, amazing work this past weekend. I look forward to the meeting your families next month during our December Holiday Party.

The Legend of Specialist Gnomeski
It all began during the summer heat of XCTC training at Fort Pickett, where Charlie Company was grinding through long days of missions, movements, and mud. One evening, after a resupply run to Walmart, something — or rather, someone — followed the convoy back to the barracks. That someone was a small, stone-faced figure wearing a tiny Kevlar helmet and a look of eternal determination: Specialist Gnomeski.
No one knew exactly how he ended up there. Some said he’d been left behind by a homesick Soldier’s spouse. Others claimed he was drawn to the sound of cadence calls echoing through the Virginia woods. Whatever the truth, by the next morning, the mysterious gnome had been adopted by Charlie Company as one of their own.
From that day on, SPC Gnomeski became a constant presence in the formation — perched on the hood of a Humvee during convoy briefs, sitting guard on the company CP table, or standing watch outside the TOC during late-night operations. He quickly earned his title of “Specialist,” not by rank, but by spirit. His unblinking gaze and unwavering smile reminded everyone that morale, no matter how small, can move mountains.
When Charlie Company deployed to Qatar in 2019, Gnomeski deployed too. Packed carefully in a rucksack, he stood proudly on the company’s desk in the operations tent — a silent motivator and symbol of home. Through long nights of duty and endless desert heat, the troops swore he brought luck, laughter, and the occasional reminder to hydrate.
Now that Charlie Company has returned home, Specialist Gnomeski has once again rejoined the ranks. Weathered from travel and touched by sand, he stands as a living piece of the unit’s story — a mascot, a mentor, and a keeper of memories.
Wherever Charlie Company goes next, one thing is certain: Gnomeski will follow — ready to offer his silent wisdom, watchful eyes, and unshakable support to the Soldiers who’ve made him one of their own.

CHARLIE COMPANY! We are back!!!
In 2023, Charlie Company was broken apart to fill crucial mission requirments for 1-114th IN BN’s forward deployment to the CENTCOM Area of Responsibility. Charlie Company soldiers were spread across the Battalion to meet these mission requirements and deployed to Iraq, Syria and Kuwait apart of the Combined Joint Task Force, Operation Inherent Resolve from 2024-2025. Since returning home Charlie Company has been reconstituted and is back and better than ever!!
Let me be the first to welcome you to the new Charlie Company. I can’t tell you how excited and privileged I feel to be apart of this organization. I’d like to keep each and every member of this page up to date on the amazing things Charlie Company and its incredible soldiers have done and will do during our drill weekends.
This past weekend Charlie Company soldiers trained and perfected their skills on the machine gun range. Machine Gun Teams executed qualification and honed their skills as members of their Weapons Squad. Our soldiers also got after it on the Individual Weapons Qualification Range, qualifying on the M4A1 rifle. A crucial aspect of all infantrymen is getting to the range and training their craft!
This past weekend we also had the pleasure of promoting Sergeant Zach Blome to the rank of Staff Sergeant. Sqaud Leader for 2nd Sqaud, 2nd Platoon, we know SSG Blome will be an asset that brings greatness to the Company.
I am absolutely thrilled to have the opportunity to lead the men and women of Charlie Company and let each family member, parent or spouse know that what your soldier does MATTERS!!
