Folks, unfortunately, it's that time of year! I want to thank Carman Viar, Bland County Commissioner of Revenue and her staff for their diligent work throughout the reassessment this year and the preparation of the tax books which allows us to prepare the tickets for our earliest mailing yet. We enjoy a great working relationship with our Commissioner's Office! If you have any questions about the tax tickets or payments, please contact the office at 276-688-3741 or email me at [email protected].

My collection efforts have been extremely unpopular with some. My approach has always been to offer grace but stay firm and follow-through. I follow these steps:

1. Notify of delinquency
2. Allow for citizens to pay in full or enter a payment agreement within a timeframe per State Code.
3. If there is no communication or effort on behalf of the debtor at the end of that window, or if the debtor does not follow through, then collection action is taken.

All I ask is for communication and a good-faith effort. The results of our efforts are a huge positive for Bland County!

As Benjamin Franklin wrote to Jean-Baptiste Le Roy in November of 1789, "In this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes."

If you received a letter from Taxing Authority Consulting Services regarding delinquent real estate taxes and you are either 1.) in an active payment agreement with our office or 2.) are not delinquent more than 3 years, please disregard those notices. An error was made in a revision file and those letters may be dismissed. If you have questions or concerns please do not hesitate to call us at 276-688-3741 or email me at [email protected].
