💜 PURPLE THURSDAY! 💜

Today, we are wearing purple in solidarity with survivors of domestic violence and the advocates across Connecticut who help people find safety and support every day.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and this issue hits close to home. For years, our partners at Interval House Hartford have helped educate our community, share resources, and empower victims and survivors. Of the 24 Connecticut towns Interval House serves, Bloomfield has consistently ranked among the top five for domestic violence cases.

Good morning, Bloomfield! 🍂

Our Town is looking fabulous this morning, and we thought we’d share a little library-themed fall glory! 🍁📚

Prosser Library opened its doors for a soft opening on October 28, 2025. As we approach the one-year anniversary, we’re still wowed by everything that continues to go into our buildings project.

We’re thankful to be where we are today, even if we’re a little tired, too! We keep showing up, finding ways to improve, and working each and every day to better serve all 22,000 Bloomfield residents. 💚

🧸 Check out these library cuties!

One of our key community partners, the West Hartford-Bloomfield Health District, joined us for a special storytime followed by teddy bear and stuffie check-ups!

With a little help from our youngest patrons, the nurse listened to each stuffie’s heart and made sure they were healthy.❤️

We love partnering with the West Hartford-Bloomfield Health District to help build health literacy at every age, one stuffie at a time. 🧸

Oh my McMahon! 🌿
The McMahon Wintonbury Library exterior upgrades are looking amazing! Landscaping is going in, boulders are finding their place, and the children’s reading garden is taking shape. We are getting so excited to see it all come together!

Come spring, when everything is finished, we are going to be GUSHING! 💚

Thanks for following along!

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and this issue hits close to home. For years, our partners at Interval House CT have helped educate our community, share resources, and empower victims and survivors. Of the 24 Connecticut towns Interval House serves, Bloomfield has consistently ranked among the top five for domestic violence cases.

So, what can we do? Here are a few ways to learn, share resources, and help raise awareness:

📚 Attend or share these upcoming BPL programs

Interval House Information Table: Thursday, 5PM-7PM
Author Talk - Resilience: Breaking the Chains with Eugene Z. Bertrand: Thursday, 5:30PM
Interval House Series: Consent & Boundaries for Teens: 10/27, 11/19, 12/17, 4PM-5PM

☎️ Help someone connect with support. Tear off the hotline number posted on our restroom doors and share it with someone who might need it.

24-hour hotline:
English: 860-838-8467
Spanish: 844-831-9200

💜 Wear purple. Join our photo. Share resources. Help spread awareness.

Small actions can make a difference, and together we can help make our community safer and more supportive for everyone.

💜 Swipe through the photos: Last year, BPL staff showed their support on the steps of Prosser Library for Purple Thursday. Yesterday, our Director and Town Manager stood together in front of a BPL book display focused on domestic violence awareness. This Thursday, we want to at least double last year’s photo! Wear purple and join us at Prosser Library at 4:45 PM. Everyone is welcome!

Connecticut Energy Assistance Program (CEAP) Applications for the 2026-2027 heating season are now being accepted!

CEAP is an annual benefit, and households must apply each year to receive assistance. There are several ways to apply:

Online: Visit ct.gov/heatinghelp
Phone: Community Renewal Team (CRT) Greater Hartford (860) 560-2694
Email: Download and complete the CEAP application. Email the completed application and required documents to your local Community Action Agency: [email protected]
Mail: Download and complete the CEAP application. (We can help you with this at BPL)
In-person: Appointments are required for in-person visits. To schedule an appointment, call CRT Greater Hartford (860) 560-2694

The first day for program-paid fuel deliveries is November 2, 2026. The last day to apply for CEAP this winter season is May 31, 2027.

For more information, visit ct.gov/heatinghelp

What is the Connecticut Energy Assistance Program (CEAP)?

The Connecticut Energy Assistance Program (CEAP) helps residents pay for their home heating costs. Applications typically take 30-45 minutes to complete.

Benefit amounts: $355-$705 for the 2026-2027 season, based on household size, income, and heating source.

Payment process: Benefits are usually paid directly to your utility company or fuel vendor.

Extra Help: Households using deliverable fuels (oil, kerosene, propane) may be eligible for additional fuel deliveries. CEAP recipients may also qualify for payment matching plans, shut-off protection, and heating equipment repairs or replacement.

Connecticut households may qualify for CEAP if their annual gross income is at or below 60% of the state median income, which is $93,681 for a family of four in federal fiscal year 2027. Households receiving certain means-tested benefits—including SNAP, Temporary Family Assistance, and Supplemental Security Income—may qualify through categorical income eligibility.
