🚨 IMPORTANT NOTICE: BURN BAN IN EFFECT FOR NELSON COUNTY 🚨

Effective immediately, October 26, 2026, Nelson County Judge-Executive Tim Hutchins has issued a countywide burn ban due to the ongoing drought conditions.

This burn ban prohibits ALL open, outdoor burning throughout Nelson County, including the City of Bloomfield.

🔥 The burn ban is effective immediately and will remain in place until officially lifted.

We ask all Bloomfield residents to please follow this order and help protect our community, our neighbors, and our emergency responders.

With the extremely dry conditions we are experiencing, even a small outdoor fire can quickly become dangerous.

Thank you for doing your part to keep Bloomfield and Nelson County safe!

Road Closure Notice:

Access to McKay Ave from Chaplin Rd will be closed off until work can be done to repair the bridge that connects McKay to Chaplin Rd. The bridge was recently inspected by the state because we are trying to get this added to the current funding available to replace and widen the bridge. It was found that the current structure is not safe for travel at this time.

Talks are in place with engineers and state officials currently to get this done as soon as we can. The timetable for now is unknown but we are working to get this resolved.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

The City of Bloomfield has not yet set its property tax rate due to delays in receiving the necessary and accurate data from the PVA office. We are currently working to obtain the correct numbers and hope to have the tax rate set within the next two weeks.

Because of this delay, the property tax deadline that was scheduled for tomorrow will be pushed back by one month. Property taxes will now be due November 1st.

All normal deadlines associated with late-payment penalties will also be moved back by one month. Residents will not be penalized because of this delay.

We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as we work to make sure the City has the correct information before setting the tax rate.

Please help us spread the word to Bloomfield property owners.

At last night’s City Council meeting, a member of the public directed a racial slur toward one of our City employees who was in attendance.

Let me be absolutely clear, this kind of hateful and racist language will not be tolerated.

The employee who was targeted has served the City of Bloomfield and this community for more than 35 years, working under numerous mayors and dedicating decades of her life to serving our residents.

During a discussion about City employees wearing shirts supporting my reelection, this employee simply stated that she had purchased her shirt with her own money. I also want to be clear that I have never directed, asked, or encouraged any City employee to wear a campaign shirt to work. Those who have chosen to do so have made that decision on their own.

Whatever anyone’s opinion may be about employees wearing political shirts during work hours, that discussion can and should be handled respectfully. There is absolutely no justification for responding to an employee with a racial slur.

Political disagreements are part of elections and public service. Racism is not.

This employee deserves respect for her more than 35 years of service to Bloomfield, and I will not remain silent when she, or any other employee, is subjected to hateful and degrading language.

Racism and hate have no place in City Hall and no place in Bloomfield.

We are better than this.

Christopher M. Dudgeon
