Due to the heavy rainfall, we wanted to let everyone know that the trails are closed to horses and bikes until further noticed! Join us at Pioneer Ridge for Monarch tagging! We will be learning about the monarch butterfly's trip to Mexico! At the end of the talk, grab a net and explore the prairie in search of monarchs to tag! (nets provided) This is an open event from 4-5:30, so please pop in at any time! Hello everyone! Pioneer Ridge is looking for volunteers October 23-24 4-9pm!
What we need
- Actors for the Halloween Hike! Actors are responsible for creating a fun and engaging, 3 and a half-minute script, about a native Iowa with a bad reputation! Actors will also need to make a costume for the animal they are representing! 4:15- 8:30 ish
- Bakers
We are looking for helpers to bring in baked goods! This could include cookies, popcorn balls or any easy to carry treat!!
- Luminary lighters
Walk around the half mile loop throughout the evening making sure candles are lit! 7-8 pm
- Trail guides
Leading groups around the half mile loop, taking them from actor to actor! 4:45-8:30 pm
- Basement attendant
Help serve treat, coffee, hot coco and general tidiness of the downstairs/activities! 5:30-8:30

A spooktacular camping weekend!

The Halloween Hike is fast approaching! October 23-24 we are hosting truck-or-treat in the campground! We are looking for campers who will decorate their campsites and hand out candy! Campers will enjoy half priced camping Thursday- Saturday night! The best decorated campsite will earn a free week of camping and second place, a free weekend!

Halloween Hike Weekend at Pioneer Ridge October 23-24, 2026

What's going on

Halloween Hike
Please join us for our annual Halloween Hike! This hike is around the nature center's 1/2-mile paved trail! Learn all about Iowa animals with a bad reputation. Please feel free to dress up in your Halloween costume!
Hikes leave the nature center every 10 minutes. Please arrive a few minutes before your scheduled time!
Cost:

3 and under are free

$4 pre-register

$5 at the door. Same day spots are not guaranteed! Register ahead of time to guarantee your spot!

Campground Trick or Treat
After the hike, enjoy a hot chocolate bar and activities in the nature center. Then, catch a tractor ride over to the campground for camper Trick or Treat! Please bring a bag for treats!

Run For the Ridge 5k
Run for the Ridge will meet at Pioneer Ridge on Saturday October 24th at 1:30pm for registration. The race will begin at 2pm.
This is a trail run, there will be multiple surfaces (rock, grass, pavement) please dress accordingly. Pre-register online $25, Day of registration $30
Register by September 28th to get your shirt on race day
