It is with a heavy heart that we announce that Robert P. Millick passed away this morning at his residence following a brief illness. Bobcat joined the department as a junior 53 years ago; he would go on to become one of the youngest EMTs in Ohio at the age of 16. For nearly 40 consecutive years, he led the Belvedere VFD as Fire Chief, an abiding figure in an ever-changing landscape. An innovator fascinated with improving fire apparatus design, Cat modernized the Belvedere VFD and mentored generations of firefighters in his way of doing things. Most notably, after surviving a near-death explosion and fire that destroyed the station and two ambulances in September 2004, Chief Millick dedicated the next two years of his life to rebuilding and reshaping the department at a time when many wanted to walk away.

Visitation will be held from 11-1 p.m. on Monday, June 29th, at Shorac Funeral Home in Wintersville. Services will be conducted at 1 p.m., after which a procession of fire apparatus will accompany him to his final resting place, alongside his wife, Betty, in New Alexandria Cemetery.
