This week is Explorers Week in CCSD93, a time when students are encouraged to explore new horizons or study some of history’s greatest explorers.

Elsie Johnson’s 4th grade students are exploring how some books are mirrors, allowing us to see ourselves in the stories or characters, while others are windows into the lives of people who are different from us. Using award-winning children’s books, students are reading, discussing and making connections to their own lives and the world around them. Way to go, Jaguars!

Student attendance is crucial to academic success, and CCSD93’s schools have made it a greater focus in recent years. At Carol Stream School, class incentives, grade-level competitions and more frequent family communication have helped reinforce that message. Today, the school took it a step further with a surprise attendance party!

Toward the end of the day, Principal McCabe announced the celebration over the loudspeaker, recognizing students for showing up, working hard and making attendance a priority. Then came the glow sticks and beats, courtesy of DJ (and Assistant Principal) Carlson, for a fun finish to the school day!

This week at the ECC, students learned by doing during Centers and Explore Playtime! As they moved between activities, our preschoolers continued developing fine motor skills and dexterity while exploring different materials, getting creative and trying new things. Students and staff also showed their team spirit by wearing gameday gear ahead of this weekend’s Bears vs. Packers game!

Third time’s a charm! After rain canceled the first two attempts this year, Carol Stream Elementary students enjoyed a beautiful morning on foot, bikes and scooters for the PTA’s Walk & Roll to School Day! Carol Stream Police and Fire Departments greeted students, adding to the festive atmosphere, and a generous parent even donated two scooters to be raffled off to students.

Thank you to all involved for helping our Cheetahs get active and enjoy a fun start to the week!
