A huge thanks to Bloomington Neighbors Nurturing Nature - BNNN for their work on Girard Lake Park today. The organization is a great partner to the city and is working to restore native habitat all around Bloomington.

We are extending our listening session before next week’s meeting because we know many of you want to talk to us about the ongoing ice enforcement actions in our city. Please read through the material attached and join us if you can.

Bloomington City Council responds to activities surrounding immigration enforcement The Bloomington City Council affirms our long-standing commitment to being a welcoming and inclusive city where all people —can live, learn, work, and engage with local government without fear.

I want to share my personal position about what is happening in our city and in MN right now. This is not a statement from the Council itself, nor any official city statement, but a reflection of where I am personally on the issue. I am writing this as I fly back to Minnesota from a work trip to Atlanta, where I got a lot of questions from my colleagues about what the federal government is doing to our state. I am sharing with you what I told them.

I am outraged by the siege taking place here. I see this for what it is and abhor its impact on families and neighbors in our community. If these efforts by ICE agents were actually removing dangerous criminals from our community to make us safer, then I would support their efforts. But that’s not what this is - and our community is not safer. To be blunt: I want them to stop terrorizing our neighbors. I want them to stop using intimidation and deadly force. I want them to stop trampling on our civil liberties. I want them to leave.

My heart hurts - for Renee Good’s wife and family, for our many neighbors being directly targeted simply because of what they look like or the language that they speak, for the fear and uncertainty driven into our daily lives by these actions. Please know that I stand proudly in solidarity with all of you who are responding to these actions with love, with compassion, and with a helping hand for one another. Thank you for donating your time and money, for checking on your neighbors, for offering rides and food prep and grocery deliveries - for being a remarkable community.

I am honored to serve you on City Council and pledge to do all I can personally and as an individual member of council to advocate for any additional ways to support our community.

Honored to know so many veterans in our community who served our nation with grit, determination and loyalty. Proud to be the daughter of an Army officer and married to one from the Navy. We owe the veterans of this country more than we can ever pay.

Super excited for this event! Planting pollinator plants along this stretch of Bloomington is a great way to leverage land that cannot be developed. I look forward to planting with you!

It was a joy to chat with so many residents last night! Deputy Chief Bitney and I attended 4 different National Night Out parties throughout the district - the conversations touched on so many different topics - reinforcing for me how deeply we all care about this city and our neighbors. Thank you to all of our hosts for sharing your time and talents in service to the people around you. It is a gift to this vibrant community. What a fun night!
