On behalf of the Board of the Friends of Penn Lake Library, I want to extend a sincere thank you to all of our volunteers for our spring book sale. With your help, we raised nearly 2,800 dollars that will go towards library initiatives. This wouldn't be possible without the countless hours you put in volunteering with us and spreading the word about the sale. Thank you!

We would also like to take this opportunity to invite you back for our fall sale. The fall sale will take place on Saturday, September 7th, with a bag sale to follow on Sunday, September 8th. We will need volunteers August 31st - September 8th. The sign-up is not ready yet, but keep an eye out for the call for volunteers when we get closer to August. Whether you want to volunteer, donate books, or just come shop, we'd love to see you again in the fall!

Let's Read! - Library Reading Tutors Summer edition 05/07/2024

Check out this summer volunteer opportunity! While this isn't at Penn Lake Library, we thought our community might be interested in helping out at Oxboro or one of the other library branches.

Let’s Read Summer Recruiting

As the warming days remind us summer is coming, so is summer recruitment! This summer, Let's Read will continue on at all 6 pilot locations - Brookdale, Brooklyn Park, Franklin, Hosmer, North Regional, and Oxboro. During the summer, sites will have new availability for youth participation as well as for volunteers. With Homework Help taking summer break, many of the Let's Read locations are choosing to try a new summer schedule with expanded hours in hopes of addressing families’ summer needs and schedules. We will also have Summer Ampact Americorps interns assisting with Let's Read as well as taking on the SYPA role.

Summer schedules for Let's Read will be posted on the public website soon, but here is a sneak preview of what's to come!

Brookdale: Saturdays: 10am-4pm, Mondays: 4-7pm, Wednesdays: 1-7pm

Brooklyn Park: Mondays: 1-4pm, Wednesdays: 1-4pm, Fridays: 1-4pm

Franklin: Tuesday: 1-5pm, Thursday: 1-5pm, Saturday: 1-5pm

Hosmer: Tuesdays: 2-3:30pm, Wednesdays: 2-3:30pm, Thursdays: 2-3:30pm, Fridays: 2-3:30pm, Saturdays: 1-5pm

North Regional: Mondays: 4-7pm, Tuesdays: 4-7pm, Saturdays: 1-4pm

Oxboro: Tuesdays: 4-7pm, Wednesdays: 4-7pm

Please share both volunteer and student opportunities with your networks! The Volunteer application is located here. Interested caregivers and students should reach out to [email protected] to schedule an assessment with a lead tutor. Please reach out to DeMaris Johnson or Bernie Farrell with any questions about Let's Read or Summer Recruitment. Teen volunteers aged 16 or older can apply to be Let's Read volunteers. They follow the same process as adults to sign up.
