Statement regarding the ongoing issues at our Cook County School District #130.

As not only the Mayor of Blue Island but an educator myself, I’ve been concerned and angry about the lack of action to clean up our schools in Cook County District 130. It’s time for the school board to take action to protect our students and teachers. I’m especially disappointed in our school board members from Blue Island, and they must vote to bring back the union custodians of SEIU Local 73. Board President Martinez should add this to their agenda for Tuesday’s meeting and do the right thing.

Going on now. This open meeting is regarding 127th to Grove. The 119th to 127th phase meeting was last month. Both sections are planned to be done simultaneously.

The City of Blue Island is leading improvements to the Western Avenue corridor from 127th Street to Grove Street, and we want to hear from you!

Residents, businesses, and everyone who uses Western Avenue are invited to stop by the East Annex, 2434 Vermont St., anytime between 4 and 7 p.m. tonight. The open house format makes it easy to join when it works for your schedule.
