On Saturday, October 24, 2026, at approximately 2:54 p.m., Bogalusa Police officers responded to a report of threats involving a potential shooting at the Washington Parish Free Fair later that evening.

The complainant reported that an individual had threatened to bring a fi***rm to the fair and shoot individuals involved in a personal dispute. He also said that the individual had told him that he was on his way to pick up another individual and they were on their way to the fair. Officers located the individual shortly afterward and observed am******on inside his vehicle. During a consensual search, officers recovered a modified .22-caliber r***e, am******on and suspected ma*****na.

45-year-old Brian Paquin of Bogalusa was charged with the following:

LRS 14:40.1-Menacing
LRS 32:415-Suspended Drivers License
LRS 40:966E-Simple Possession of Ma*****na

Officers continued the investigation, contacted potentially affected individuals, and coordinated with law enforcement agencies at the fairgrounds. A second individual connected to the reported threat was also notified that he was prohibited from entering the fairgrounds for the remainder of the year.

Chief James Smith said β€œOur officers did an outstanding job on this. They worked fast to identify and locate the suspect and bring what could have been a tragic situation under control.”
The Bogalusa Police Department takes threats of violence seriously and encourages anyone with information regarding a potential threat to immediately contact law enforcement.

TWO CONVICTED OF SECOND-DEGREE MURDER IN 2021 BOGALUSA SHOOTING OVER INSTAGRAM "RAP BEEF"

Today, a Washington Parish jury found Tauj Taplin, 24, of Amite, and Quardaviaon White, 24, of McComb, MS, guilty as charged of Second Degree Murder following a 5-day trial before Judge Alan A. Zaunbrecher. Assistant District Attorneys Tiffany Dover and Iain Dover prosecuted the case following a comprehensive investigation led by the Bogalusa Police Department.

On June 7, 2021, officers responded to a shooting at a Union Square apartment, where a victim was located with multiple gunshot wounds and later pronounced dead. Investigators determined the shooting stemmed from threats made by area rap music figures, identifying Taplin as the shooter and White as the getaway driver. Digital evidence, including cell phone location records, placed both men at the scene. Following an interstate multi-agency effort, both defendants were taken into custody in Texas and returned to Louisiana.

District Attorney Collin Sims extended sincere thanks to all investigating and assisting agencies: Bogalusa Police Department, Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office, Louisiana State Police, Chambers County Sheriff's Office, Vidor Police Department, and the ATF.

Sentencing is scheduled for October 20, 2026. Both face mandatory life imprisonment without parole, probation, or suspension of sentence.
