Our community has grown, and our fire department needs to grow with it. Over the past 30 years, Boiling Springs has expanded rapidly, but our fire district’s millage rate hasn’t changed since 1997. Right now, our biggest challenge is keeping qualified firefighters. BSFD starting salaries are around $32,500, which is about 20% lower than neighboring departments. While we can recruit dedicated young firefighters, we struggle to retain them without competitive pay.
On November 3rd, or during early voting residents will have the opportunity to vote on a referendum allowing the Boiling Springs Fire District to levy up to 26 mills. This isn’t just about raises, it’s about safe, adequate staffing for our entire community. Just like our schools and roads, our emergency services must keep pace with our growth.
We don’t have a big campaign budget, so we need YOUR help to spread the word. We are relying on grassroots outreach, please share this post with your family, friends, and neighbors in Boiling Springs! Help us make sure everyone in Boiling Springs is informed before November 3rd! Have questions? Drop them in the comments below, we’ll do our best to answer them and will be continuing to share more information over the coming weeks. Thank you!

Meet the Team Monday- Today, we’re highlighting Firefighter Joseph Hensley, though most folks around the station just call him Joe! Joe serves on B-Shift and has been with BSFD for a year, bringing five total years of fire service experience to our community. Originally hailing from Cowpens, SC, Joe loves nothing more than spending his days off with his family. Joe’s Pro-Tip for Residents: When parking at home or along neighborhood streets, always ask yourself: “Could a large fire truck easily get through here in an emergency?” Tight streets, cars parked too far from the curb, or vehicles left parked on sharp curves can severely delay our response time when every second counts. Help us help you by leaving plenty of room for emergency vehicles! Thank you for your service and dedication to keeping our community safe, Joe!

Last night, B-Shift trained on a scenario we hope we never have to face: performing CPR on a fully dressed-out firefighter. If a firefighter goes down, crews must act in seconds, swiftly stripping off heavy turnout gear and SCBA airpacks to begin life-saving care. Continuous training for these high-stress situations ensures our firefighters can render aid immediately when every second counts.
