Fall is in full swing, and while those colorful leaves are beautiful on the trees, they can quickly pile up in our yards! Before you grab the rake, did you know those fallen leaves can actually BENEFIT your lawn, garden, and local wildlife?
-Fallen leaves provide important shelter and habitat for fireflies and other beneficial insects throughout the colder months.
-Set your lawnmower to approximately 3 inches and mow over fallen leaves. The shredded leaves break down naturally, returning valuable nutrients to your lawn.
-Spread mulched leaves around flowerbeds and gardens to help suppress weeds, retain moisture, and improve soil health.
-Fallen leaves also make a great addition to your compost pile!

If you choose not to keep your leaves, please follow these guidelines to help our Public Works crew collect them safely and efficiently:
-Place leaves in piles or rows within 3 feet of the roadway or curb, but NOT in the street.
-Keep leaf piles away from parked vehicles, mailboxes, utility poles, fencing, and yard decorations.
-Leaves only, please! Do not mix in branches, brush, or trash.
-If you choose to bag your leaves, you are responsible for taking them to the Township Compost Site.
