The Idaho Army National Guard’s 116th Cavalry Brigade Combat Team is hosting Armor Day at the Warhawk Air Museum in Nampa tomorrow. The event, free and open to the public from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., is the brigade’s farewell to armor as the unit transitions to a mobile brigade combat team.

The open house will feature an Abrams main battle tank, a Bradley Fighting Vehicle, a Paladin howitzer, additional static displays and family-friendly activities.

The unit has operated armor equipment since 1949 and is currently reorganizing as part of the U.S. Army’s Transformation Initiative. The strategic modernization effort is designed to strengthen the military’s capabilities in response to emerging global threats by adapting fighting formations and integrating new technologies to prepare units and Soldiers to fight on the battlefield of the future.

The brigade’s combat forces will transition from combat arms battalions consisting of tanks and Bradley Fighting Vehicles to infantry battalions utilizing the Infantry Squad Vehicle.

The 116th Cavalry Brigade Combat Team will retain its cavalry lineage and designation following its transition, which will impact every subordinate unit across the state.

She was 16 years old. She rode 40 miles alone through the night and outperformed every man who came before her.

Most Americans know Paul Revere. Fewer know that a 16-year-old girl rode twice as far on a similar mission and finished it. On April 26, 1777, British forces raided Danbury, Connecticut. Someone needed to ride through Putnam County, New York, and rally the militia. Sybil Ludington volunteered. She rode approximately 40 miles through the dark, through the rain, alone. Paul Revere’s famous ride covered roughly 20 miles. Revere was captured before he finished. Sybil completed hers and made it home before dawn.

Nobody wrote a poem about it.

🇺🇸 CAPITOL CIVICS FOR A DAY: AN AMERICA250 CELEBRATION 🇺🇸

Join the Idaho State Senate on June 4 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for a unique opportunity to learn how Idaho's government works from the people who help make it happen every day.

Participants will hear directly from legislators and the Secretary of the Senate, meet with state agencies and legislative staff, and gain a behind-the-scenes look at the legislative process. The event will also feature the announcement of the winners of the Idaho 5th Grade America250 drawing contest.

As we celebrate America's 250th anniversary, this is a great opportunity to deepen your understanding of civic engagement and the role citizens play in our republic.
