You can’t always trust what you hear, but you can always question the source.

Impersonation scams are on the rise.

Scammers may call and claim to be deputies or other law enforcement personnel and sound very convincing over the phone.

Red flags:
🚩 Pressure to act right now
🚩 Demands for money or personal information
🚩 Payment by gift card, prepaid debit card, wire transfer, crypto, payment app (Venmo, Cashapp, Zelle, etc.), or mailed cash

Whether it's for missed jury duty, an unpaid citation, an electronic monitoring device, or to "cancel" a warrant, we will NEVER demand payment over the phone or threaten arrest over unpaid fines.

Talk with your family, friends, and neighbors about scams. A quick conversation could keep someone from becoming a victim.

If you believe you’ve been a victim of a scam, call our non-emergency line at (208) 377-3790.

Scammers count on fear and urgency. Take your time, verify, and don't panic.

Pet as many dogs as possible? Challenge accepted.

Sheriff Clifford and our Community Engagement Unit joined hundreds of dogs and their humans at See Spot Walk today! Deputy Rhom and K9 Dante also gave a demo of how they work as a team.

Thanks to the Idaho Humane Society for 34 years of this awesome event, and for all you do for animals in our community 🐾

This week we hosted a two-day PepperBall training for agencies from across Idaho and Washington. Attendees got hands-on time with a range of PepperBall launchers, then headed to the range to put them to the test, including breaking out vehicle windows. By the end, they earned trainer certifications to bring the training home to their own teams.

These less-lethal launchers use compressed air or CO₂ to fire small projectiles filled with an irritant powder, giving deputies another less-lethal option in both patrol and detention settings.

It takes organization, reliability, attention to detail, and a commitment to supporting the team.

After nearly 32½ years with the Ada County Sheriff's Office, we said farewell and congratulations to Dispatcher Tim Simmonds this week.

Tim came to us after serving five years with the United States Air Force. Following a medical discharge and several surgeries, he needed a job that would let him sit down. He admits he didn't really know what he was getting into when he applied at Ada County Dispatch, but he had a family to feed, and he knew logistics and maps.

When Tim started in 1994, dispatch looked a lot different. There was no internet and no cell phones. (Swipe through to see Tim on the console in 1995 and again in 2009.) Over the next three decades, he was on the other end of the headset for some of the biggest incidents in Ada County history, including several plane crashes and the county's largest interstate pileup, when 48 vehicles collided on a foggy morning.

Tim has also helped bring seven babies into the world. Five were delivered over the phone, earning him Stork Pins, and two he delivered in person: his own daughter and grandson. Along the way, he also received five Lifesaver Awards.

Tim is honest about what the job asks of the people who do it. "You're going to make a big difference in a lot of lives," he said. "But there's going to be a cost."

Not every 911 call has a happy ending, which is why a strong support system, team camaraderie, and celebrating the wins matter so much. One of Tim's biggest wins came when he talked a family through CPR after they found their four-year-old unresponsive in a pool. The child survived, and Tim later got to meet him. He kept that child's photo in his dispatch locker as a reminder of why he does this work.

His advice to new dispatchers is simple: come in, sit down, plug in, and listen.
As for what's next, Tim plans to take it easy and spend time with his wife, Kerrie, and their dogs, Gabby and Remi.

Thank you for your service to our community, Tim. We wish you the very best!

Sheriff Clifford, Chief Deputy Hessing, and quite a few of our professional staff and deputies traded the office for a little sunshine at the Idaho Humane Society this week!

Our team got to spend some time with adoptable pups (and a few kittens), giving them belly rubs, treats, and some extra time outside.

We work closely with IHS and Animal Control in a variety of ways throughout the year, so it’s always fun to bring our teams together for something a little different — especially when animals are involved!

A few of the adoptable pups featured are Rice, Clover, Beatrice, R***r, Pam, Marco & Polo, Chico, Remi, Ramon, Lily, Toto, Dolly, and Cass.

See someone who caught your eye? Send us a DM or visit the Idaho Humane Society’s website for more information!
