The Idaho Wheat Commission (IWC) is a not-for-profit, quasi-state agency established in 1959 by Idaho's wheat farmers.

IWC is governed by a board of five wheat growers appointed by the Governor of the State of Idaho. Established by wheat farmers in 1959 and funded by Idaho's wheat growers, the Idaho Wheat Commission is a not-for-profit, grower governed state agency. It is the Commission's responsibility to increase wheat grower profits by investing grower dollars in market development, wheat research, and programs

“I was also born 60 years ago [in 1966, the year the U.S. Wheat Taiwan office was opened]. My grandfather was a miller. My clothing said ‘American wheat’ — made for me by my grandmother from sacks we received the wheat in. It is an honor to accept this recognition of partnership on behalf of my family’s milling business with U.S. wheat farmers.”

What started 70 years ago with buses converted into kitchens distributing flour across Japan is now a loyal partnership built on trust and shared values. Japan has purchased more U.S. wheat than any other country over the past seven decades, paying premiums for superior quality. Today we celebrated and honored the continuing commitment shared between 🇺🇸 and 🇯🇵.

Something to celebrate! 🥳 A sixty year commitment to consistent, superior quality between Idaho’s wheat-growing families and Taiwan’s milling and baking families. Taiwan is the #1 consumer, per capita, of U.S. wheat and their demand for wheat exceeds their demand for rice. From one baker at the anniversary ceremony, “You won our hearts and our diets changed.”

Idaho Wheat commissioners and staff presented Yi-I Huang, Country Director for Taiwan, with a proclamation of appreciation and continued partnership signed by . Cheers to the next 60 years!

For more than 40 years, Idaho’s wheat families have provided a fun, wheat-focused, hands-on learning experience for elementary school kids around the state called Bread in a Bag. In the last 10 years alone, 81,000 students have participated, learning about wheat and developing a healthy relationship with wheat foods.
