Yesterday, President Trump signed an Executive Order directing Treasury and the IRS to provide temporary relief on dyed diesel used on public roads, including penalty relief and a possible deferral of federal excise taxes through Dec. 31, 2026.

What it means for wheat and barley growers: potentially lower upfront fuel costs when hauling grain and supplies on public roads. Off-road farm fuel (tractors, combines) already gets favorable tax treatment, so don't expect much new relief there.

Before you fuel up:
✅ Deferral isn't forgiveness. Repayment could still be required.
✅ State rules still apply. The order doesn't waive state taxes or restrictions.
✅ Wait for IRS and state guidance before running dyed diesel in highway vehicles.
✅ Relief covers Oct. 5 through Dec. 31, 2026.
