Representing Idaho in Atlanta!

Our Southwest Idaho leaders, Marie Baker (Regional Director) and Karen Appelgren (Associate Regional Director), attended the America’s SBDC National Conference, where both were featured as panelists sharing their expertise with colleagues from across the country:

• Marie participated in a panel discussion on Crowdfunding, sharing insights on how entrepreneurs can navigate alternative funding avenues.

• Karen joined a panel on Vertical IQ, highlighting how business consultants can leverage the platform as a powerful resource to better advise and support their clients.

We are proud to see our team contributing to national conversations and bringing the latest tools, strategies, and knowledge back to support Idaho’s small business community.

Protect your business and personal accounts from credential stuffing and MFA scams.

Huge shoutout to Cybersecuritygirl for breaking down these essential digital safety tips:

Use Unique Passwords: Reusing passwords means one breach compromises everything (like using one key for your home, car, and office). Keep every account secured with its own distinct password.

Enable MFA (Multi-Factor Authentication): Passwords aren't enough—MFA adds a critical second layer of defense.

MFA Red Flags to Watch For:

Unsolicited verification codes: If you get a code when you aren't logging in, someone already has your password.

Prompt spamming: Never hit "Approve" just to make notifications stop. Change your password immediately instead.

Suspicious login links: Always open official apps or type web addresses directly.

Requests for your code: Legitimate companies, banks, or support teams will never ask for your MFA code.

Artificial urgency: Beware of "verify now or be locked out" pressure tactics.

Your accounts hold your financial data, identity, and personal privacy. Take a few minutes today to audit your passwords and turn on MFA.

Drop a comment below if your accounts are locked down.

Congratulations to Tara Lynn Haley (Tara Haley) and her 18-year-old son Liam, co-founders of Jobsperience™, for winning the Audience Choice Award at Boise Pitch Night during Boise Entrepreneur Week!

Jobsperience™: Five Phases to Prepare Your Teen for Adult Independence is a 400-page multimedia program designed for parents and teens navigating the transition to adulthood. Developed over years of research, co-authored with Liam while he was still in high school, and now live at taralynnhaley.com, Jobsperience™ gives families the practical tools schools don't teach.

Tara Lynn is a 20-year educator and a doctoral candidate at South College in Instructional Design and Technology, Liam is an Honors College freshman at Boise State University. Both are peer-reviewed published researchers (IHSES 2026, New York)

Their win at Pitch Night came with a year of free office space and mentorship at Trailhead Boise and sponsored exposure to an Idaho School District.

Cybersecurity Awareness Month Tip for Business Owners:

Cybercriminals don't hack in; they log in using easy targets. As an entrepreneur, your time is tight, but a single fraudulent email can cost you thousands in lost revenue or compromised data.

Before you click, open, or pay an unexpected invoice, take 5 seconds to ask:

Expected? Was I expecting this message or invoice?

Sender? Does the email address match the official domain?

Unusual? Is this an abnormal request for standard operations?

Urgency? Am I being pressured to act immediately?

Attackers rely on you rushing. Protect your business by teaching your team to pause and verify before trusting.

Thanks to ITS - Idaho Office of Information Technology Services for the Weekly Challenge.
