🌾✈️ Heads Up, Hardeman County! Cover Crop Season Is Here!
If you’ve noticed low‑flying planes cruising over local fields, there’s no need to worry — it’s cover crop season in Hardeman County! Each year, agricultural pilots help our farmers by spreading winter cover crop seed from the air. This allows for quick, efficient planting across large fields.
These planes are dropping seed only — absolutely no pesticides, herbicides, or fertilizers are applied during this process.
💡 Seeds you may see being spread:
Wheat • Rye • Oats • Clover • Austrian Winter Peas • Turnips • Radishes
🌱 Why cover crops?
Cover crops play a big role in keeping Hardeman County’s farmland healthy.
They help:
• Improve water quality
• Reduce soil erosion
• Build soil health and organic matter
📅 Seeding window: Late August through October 15
So, if you spot a plane flying low over farmland, it’s simply helping local producers protect their soil and water resources for the year ahead.
