We missed our daily post yesterday so here are two facts about domestic violence.

Domestic violence doesn't always end when a relationship does, and it doesn't always stay at home.

For many survivors, the abuse continues through stalking, threats, harassment, and even showing up at their workplace. This can make it difficult for someone to feel safe, move forward, or maintain financial independence.

At the Fannin County Family Crisis Center, we understand that leaving a relationship doesn't always mean the abuse stops. We are here to help survivors navigate these challenges, create safety plans, and connect with resources to help them move forward.

You don’t have to go through it alone.

Sometimes, connecting with people who understand can make a big difference. We offer support groups for those impacted by domestic violence because healing doesn’t have to happen alone.

If you or someone you know is impacted by domestic violence, contact us. We’re here to help.

We often hear people ask, "Why don't they just leave?" or "Why would they go back?" A common misconception is that it's easy to leave.

The truth is, leaving an abusive relationship is not always that simple. There are so many things a survivor has to consider. Children, finances, housing, transportation, fear, and even the hope that things will get better can all play a part in their decisions.

If someone you care about is in an abusive relationship, please don't give up on them because they aren't making the decisions you think they should. You don't have to agree with their choices to continue being someone they can count on. Be there and be ready to offer support.

📣Sound On📣

Today we spent the day alongside survivors, advocates, policy makers, and supporters at our state capital.

One of the things we were reminded of is survivor stories matter.

Survivors, your story is yours and it matters. You deserve to thrive. You are not alone. And we’re here to help.

Isolation is something that can happen so gradually that a survivor may not even realize it's happening.

It may start with an abusive partner making them feel guilty for spending time with friends or family, questioning who they talk to, or causing arguments when they want to go somewhere. Before long, they may find themselves separated from the people they would normally turn to for help.

If you notice someone you care about becoming distant, keep reaching out. Even if they don't answer your calls or turn down invitations, don't assume they don't want you in their life.

As a community, we can make a difference by simply being there for the people around us. Sometimes knowing someone still cares and hasn't given up on you is exactly what you need when you're ready to ask for help.

Stalking can have a real impact on someone’s sense of safety and peace of mind. It can make everyday things feel scary and leave someone feeling like they are constantly looking over their shoulder.

At Fannin County Family Crisis Center, we are here to help survivors navigate these situations and understand their options. Our advocates can help with safety planning, resources, and support as survivors figure out what steps are right for them.

Everyone deserves to feel safe in their own home and community. If you or someone you know is experiencing stalking, please know that help is available, and you don’t have to navigate it alone.

Abuse isn’t always physical. Sometimes it starts with someone slowly pulling you away from the people and things that matter most to you. Over time, a person may feel disconnected from family, friends, and their support system without even realizing how much things have changed.

Having people who care about us and support us matters. At Fannin County Family Crisis Center, we want survivors to know they don’t have to go through difficult situations alone. We can help navigate safety and connecting to family or friends who may feel lost.

If you are worried about someone you care about, continue to show up for them. Listen without judgment and remind them that you are there when they need you.

And if you need support yourself, we are here for you, too.

Today was a great day!

Thank you to everyone who came out for our In Her Shoes event and took the time to learn more about domestic violence and the challenges survivors face.

Sometimes, it’s hard to understand why leaving an abusive relationship isn’t that simple. We hope today helped bring more awareness and understanding to the many barriers survivors experience and reminded everyone how important it is to show up with compassion and support.

And since today is Purple Thursday, we’re extra proud to see our community standing together to support survivors and take a stand against domestic violence!

Thank you to everyone who participated, supported, and continues to help us make a difference right here in Fannin County. Together, we can remind survivors that they are not alone!

Thank you Credit Union of Texas for lunch and Bonham First United Methodist Church for allowing us the space!
