🎉 **Help us congratulate Captain Kelling on his retirement!** 🎉

After 33 years in law enforcement, Captain Kelling has officially answered his final call and gone 10-7.

Captain Kelling began his law enforcement career in 1993 with the Dodge City Police Department. Over the next 33 years, his career took him through Dodge City, Mission, Pratt, Edwardsville, and ultimately Bonner Springs, where he joined our department in 2018.

During his time with the Bonner Springs Police Department, Captain Kelling served as a Sergeant and later as Captain, along with taking on roles as our Field Training Officer Program Supervisor and Peer Support Group Manager. But his impact goes far beyond the titles he held.

He has spent his career serving others, mentoring officers, supporting his fellow law enforcement officers, and helping shape the next generation of officers. He has been someone others could count on, both on the job and when the job got difficult.

In November 2024, he was promoted to Captain, a fitting recognition of the years of experience, leadership, and dedication he brought to the department.

Now, after 33 years of service, it's time for a new chapter.

Captain Kelling, we hope you know just how much your service has meant to the people and agencies you have served throughout your career. Your experience, leadership, friendship, and willingness to help others will be missed around the department.

From all of us at the Bonner Springs Police Department, thank you. Thank you for answering the call for 33 years, for the countless hours, the long days, the difficult calls, the laughs, the lessons, and everything in between.

Now it's time to enjoy retirement. You've earned it.

Congratulations, Captain Kelling! Enjoy retirement, Captain!

🎓 Congratulations, Capt. Heather Pate! 👮‍♀️

The Bonner Springs Police Department is proud to congratulate Capt. Heather Pate on being selected to attend and successfully completing the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia!

The FBI National Academy is a highly selective, invitation-only program for senior law enforcement leaders. The 10-week residential program brings together law enforcement leaders from across the United States and around the world for advanced leadership development, academic instruction, physical fitness, and professional networking.

During her time at the National Academy, Capt. Pate completed:

🔹 Leadership development and executive-level training, including discussions and instruction focused on today's challenges in law enforcement.

🔹 Physical fitness and wellness training, culminating in the Academy's legendary Yellow Brick Road—a demanding obstacle course that has long been a signature part of the National Academy experience.

🔹 Networking and collaboration with law enforcement leaders from agencies throughout the country and around the world, building professional relationships that extend well beyond the classroom.

Capt. Pate's selection to attend the FBI National Academy is a significant professional accomplishment and reflects her dedication to leadership, professional development, and the law enforcement profession.

Congratulations, Capt. Pate, on this outstanding achievement! We are proud to have you representing the Bonner Springs Police Department and look forward to bringing the knowledge, experience, and relationships you gained at the National Academy back to our department and our community.

👏 Congratulations, Capt. Pate! Well deserved!

Another great use of the Grappler Device!

Recently our Directed Patrol Unit located a subject with felony warrants. The subject subsequently fled in his vehicle. But thanks to the Grappler Police Bumper, our officers were able to bring his vehicle to a stop! The subject was also found to be in possession of methamphetamine and fentanyl. The subject was taken into custody and booked into the Wyandotte County Jail.

Great work by our officers!!
