On September 17th and 18th, the Bonner Springs FD hosted the Kansas Fire & Rescue Training Institute and the National Fire Academy course: Wildland Urban Interface Firefighting for the Structural Company Officer in Bonner Springs.

This class brought together Firefighters and Fire Officers from Bonner Springs FD, Lawrence Douglas County Fire Medical, the City of Lansing FD, the City of Eudora FD, Fairmount Township FD, the City of Leavenworth FD and the KCKFD for a two-day class designed to assist company officers and aspiring company officers on managing wildland fires that impact urban areas in our community.

The class was instructed by Tim Woodward, retired Deputy Fire Chief from Littleton, Colorado, who shared his knowledge and experience in WUI firefighting with the 18 attendees in the class.

This class further develops the working relationship between the area fire departments and the ever-increasing challenges faced with the WUI environment.

Today, we remember.

Twenty-five years ago, our nation was forever changed by the events of September 11, 2001.

We honor the 2,977 lives lost that day, including the 343 FDNY firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice while answering the call. We also remember the countless first responders, service members, and others whose lives were forever impacted in the years that followed.

May we never forget their courage, their sacrifice, and the unity that brought our nation together.

**Never Forget. 🇺🇸**

🚑 Pre-Season EMS Training with Bonner Springs High School Football 🏈

On August 26, members of BSFD ‘A’ Shift had the opportunity to participate in pre-season EMS training with the Bonner Springs High School Football Team and Athletic Training Staff.

During the training, we reviewed proper procedures for removing football equipment from an injured player and discussed important considerations and treatment procedures for potential injuries occurring on the field.

A big thank you to Sara Neri, BSHS Athletic Trainer, Coach Bryon Mays, and Dr. Knapp for reaching out and partnering with us again this year for this important pre-season training.

We’re proud to work alongside our local athletic staff to help keep our athletes safe and ensure everyone is prepared should an emergency happen on the field. 💪🏈🚑

Good luck to the Bonner Springs Braves this season! 🖤💛
