**STRUCTURE FIRE**
At approximately 3:51AM this morning the Boone Fire Department was dispatched to 1309 S Linn St. for the report of a smoke alarm sounding in an apartment with the neighbor unable to get an answer at the door of the apartment. Engine 8-65 responded with our on-duty crew of 3 firefighters and an EMT, arriving less than 7 minutes after the dispatch. Entry into the apartment found light smoke and a fire burning in the ceiling. A callback was requested bringing Chief 8-60, Truck 8-66, Rescue 8-64, Engine 8-61, Engine 8-62 and Tanker 8-63 with 8 additional firefighters.
A fire was found burning in the ceiling of a first floor bathroom, extending through the wall of the second floor and into the attic of the building. Attack lines were deployed into the building while ceilings and walls were opened to expose the fire. Extinguishment was slowed due to the location of the fire in a pipe chase with limited access and electrical service lines running in the same vicinity, limiting the ability to fully extinguish the fire until electricity had been disconnected. Approximately 1 hour into the incident the fire was controlled. Crews worked on scene for approximately 3 hours before returning to service. A single civilian was transported from the scene by ambulance during the incident. There were no injuries to responders during the incident. Due to the involvement of the electrical service for the entire building, all occupants were displaced, approximately 23 individuals. The cause of the fire appeared to be electrical in nature.
The Boone Fire Department was assisted by the Ogden Fire Department, Boone County Communications Center, Boone Police Department, Boone County Hospital Ambulance, Boone County Emergency Management Agency Boone County, IA, Alliant Energy and property management for the building. We’d also like to give a special thanks to the Boone McDonald’s for donating breakfast to our crews!
