STATEMENT FROM MAYOR BAKER:

October 8, 2026

As the Mayor of Booneville, I want to address the incident involving Jeremy Griffith on February 26, 2026. I spoke to Mr. Griffith this week and apologized to him for the comments made by the City of Booneville’s Police Officers during his detainment. I feel like the comments were regrettable and unfortunate. As the Mayor, I’m ultimately responsible for our city employees’ actions during the performance of their official job duties. I’m the Mayor when things are going well and I’m the Mayor when they aren’t going well.
I’m personally looking into the incident and reviewing the action of our employees, but I will not comment further concerning personnel issues. After speaking to Mr. Griffith, and several concerned veterans, I do feel that putting out a statement is warranted.
I’ve always had the greatest respect for our military veterans. I have several family members and close friends that are veterans and I’m incredibly proud of their service to our country.
Our veterans are the greatest of Americans and have fought for our freedom and our rights, which we all enjoy and cherish today.
To Mr. Griffith, again, I hope that you can accept my sincerest apology as the Mayor of Booneville, and I thank you for your service to our country.

Mayor Edgar Baker

begin Monday, October 12, 2026, and continue through Friday, October 16, 2026. We will also be doing a tire pick up at the same time.
Residents within the city limits of Booneville can rid themselves of unwanted items by simply leaving them with their normal trash. City residents are the only ones eligible to have items hauled away, which will occur on residents' normal trash collection day. As usual, there MUST BE three feet of space around every side of each trash bin on the property. Any trash bin with items left against, or within three feet, of the trash bin, will not be picked up. To be eligible for pickup, all metal items must be placed in a separate pile; and all sofas, recliners, mattresses, furniture and like items should be placed in an additional separate pile. Items that are ineligible for the service include paint, paint cans, boards, rocks, bags of concrete, shingles, scrap metal, batteries, and bricks or blocks. Brush and limbs are also ineligible; however you can stack your brush with the cut ends along the roadside and call City Hall to request for it to be picked up any time of the year. City Hall officials say no containers (other than regular assigned trash bins) will be returned following the cleanup. City officials also wish to remind everyone that the clean up is for city residents only, as is use of the dumpsters located at 678 East Main Street.
