We hosted a reverent and moving POW/MIA Recognition Day ceremony at the NH State Veterans Cemetery this morning. The names of all of New Hampshire’s POW/MIA from Vietnam and Korea were read aloud to remind us to NEVER FORGET not just all prisoners-of-war and missing-in-action, but the families and friends who do not have closure and carry the never-ending burden of the unknown. Special thanks to BG (ret) Edward Harrigton’s profound words as the keynote speaker, Greg D’Arbonne for his magnificent rendition of the National Anthem, Chaplain Veinotte for his poignant invocation and benediction, the American Legion Sweeney Post Color Guard, Bob McGuigan, Too-tall, and Rolling Thunder of NH for the Missing Troops Table presentation, MSgt Lee Hirtle for his rendition of Taps, and importantly, to Doc Stewart and all of Rolling Thunder of NH for planning and executing such a wonderful ceremony.

Rolling Thunder of NH will host a POW/MIA Remembrance Ceremony on Saturday, September 19th at 10:00 AM in the NHSVC Chapel. All are invited to attend as we set aside time to honor and remember all POW/MIA.

It's been a busy week at the NHSVC! We hosted the annual Saluting Branches event on Wednesday, September 16th. A huge THANK YOU to Asplundh Tree, Unitil, Eversource, and Pfizer for providing their time and talent to beautify the cemetery and help car for our many trees. Thanks to NH Arborists Association and Mr. Al Prisco for donating new trees to be planted at the cemetery. Thank you to Tim Berquist from TimBer Property Consulting for his work and advice on this day and throughout the year. Finally, thank you to Brian Salas who leads this event and provides amazing advice throughout the year. Great job by all!

Thank you to all who came to the closing ceremony of the 100 Nights of Remembrance! We had a nice crowd and Taps was sounded throughout the cemetery by six of our 100 Nights Volunteers. Special thanks to Dave Currier and Lee Hirtle for all they do to keep this important program alive and well! If you can play Taps on any horn, please consider joining this program! You only need to play Taps at the cemetery a few times per year!

Have a wonderful weekend!

We have a few upcoming events at the NHSVC:

- 9/11 Day of Caring hosted by the Granite United Way will take place at the NHSVC on Friday, 9/11 between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM. There will be 30 volunteers during the morning shift and 30 in the afternoon. Participants must sign-up through the Granite United Way. These events are always so helpful to our staff and keep our cemetery reverent and beautiful.

- On Friday, September 11th we will end the 100 Nights of Remembrance from 2026. There will be a very brief ceremony that will begin at 6:40 PM. Taps will be played at 7:00 PM. The rendering of Taps will simulate the way it was done during the Civil War when buglers in the different camps would play. We will have multiple buglers playing Taps throughout the cemetery. All are welcome.

- Wednesday, September 16th the annual Saluting Branches will occur at the NHSVC! You can learn more here: https://www.salutingbranches.org/ Dozens of professional tree and landscaping companies and individuals will donate a day of service at the NHSVC. There are no services scheduled to accommodate the immense amount of work that will be done throughout the cemetery grounds. If you are a professional and would like to volunteer, please do so through the Saluting Branches website.

- We are doing niche interments again and doing our best to get completely caught up! It will be a busy September and October, but we are making progress!

A newsletter with more information will be coming our soon. If you aren't already signed up to receive our newsletter, you may do so here: https://mailchi.mp/48e4f33532b7/news_notification

The NHSVC was honored to host the West Point men's and women's cross country teams for two afternoons of community service. These amazing young men and women worked hard and demonstrated that the future of our Army is in good hands! They are truly leaders of character and we are grateful for their service. I must note, that they did spend a great deal of time cleaning the area in and around the USMC monument. Thus, it was truly a joint operation!

Special thanks to our Adopt-a-Garden volunteer, Linda, for working with the cadets and for creating such a beautiful quilt to honor their visit!
