💨 What Does an Air Compressor Have to Do With Your Fire Sprinkler System? More Than You Might Think!

When most people think of fire sprinkler systems, they think of water. But did you know that some systems rely on pressurized air to operate properly?

In a dry pipe fire sprinkler system, an air compressor plays an important role in keeping the system ready for an emergency.

🔥 Here's how it works:

Unlike a traditional wet sprinkler system, where water is constantly present in the pipes, a dry pipe system uses pressurized air or nitrogen to help keep the dry pipe valve closed.

When a sprinkler activates due to heat from a fire, air escapes from the piping, causing the pressure to drop. This allows the dry pipe valve to open and water to flow into the piping and out through the activated sprinkler.

So, why is the air compressor important?

💨 Maintains proper air pressure: Helps keep the system pressurized during normal operation.

❄️ Supports freeze protection: Dry pipe systems are commonly used in areas exposed to freezing temperatures, such as unheated warehouses, loading docks, and parking structures.

🔧 Helps maintain system readiness: A properly functioning compressor helps maintain the required pressure so the dry pipe system can operate as designed.

⚠️ What happens if the compressor isn't working properly?

Low air pressure, excessive compressor cycling, or air leaks can indicate problems that need attention. If left unaddressed, these issues may lead to unwanted valve trips, system impairment, or additional wear on equipment.

The bottom line? Your air compressor may not be the first component you think about when it comes to fire protection, but it's an important part of keeping a dry pipe sprinkler system ready.

At Fire Sprinkler Services LLC, we understand that every component matters when it comes to protecting your property.

🚨 We’re Seeing It Again: Painted Sprinkler Heads

Our team has recently noticed an increase in fire sprinkler heads that have been painted over, so it’s worth sharing this reminder again.

Whether it happens during a renovation, a fresh coat of ceiling paint, or a quick touch-up, fire sprinkler heads should never be painted.

Paint can interfere with the sprinkler heat-sensitive components and prevent the sprinkler from operating as designed during a fire. Even a small amount of overspray can be a problem.

🎨 Planning to paint? Make sure painters know sprinkler heads need to be protected from paint and overspray.

🔍 Already have painted sprinkler heads? Don’t scrape, clean, or attempt to remove the paint yourself. Painted sprinkler heads generally need to be replaced by a qualified fire sprinkler professional.

It may look like a minor cosmetic mistake, but when it comes to your fire protection system, the details matter.

📞 Call Fire Sprinkler Services LLC at 318-752-3104 if you have painted sprinkler heads or need your system inspected.

❄️ Don’t Let Freezing Temperatures Put Your Fire Sprinkler System at Risk

In areas of your building that aren’t heated, such as warehouses, loading areas, canopies, or other exposed spaces, an antifreeze loop can help protect fire sprinkler piping from freezing temperatures.

But antifreeze loops need attention, too.

Over time, the antifreeze solution can become diluted, leak, or fall outside the required concentration. Regular testing helps determine whether the solution is still providing proper freeze protection and whether the system needs to be serviced or recharged.

The last thing you want to discover during a cold snap is that your sprinkler piping wasn’t properly protected.

Fire Sprinkler Services LLC can inspect and test your antifreeze system and perform the necessary maintenance to help keep it ready for colder weather.

🔥 Is Your Fire Sprinkler System Ready When It Matters Most?

A properly functioning fire sprinkler system is one of your building’s most important lines of protection. When activated, it can help control the spread of a fire, protect property, and give occupants valuable time to safely exit while the fire department responds.

But a sprinkler system can only do its job if it’s properly inspected, tested, and maintained.

NFPA 25 establishes regular inspection and testing intervals for fire sprinkler systems, which can include:

🔹 Weekly or Monthly: Certain gauges and system components, depending on the type of sprinkler system
🔹 Quarterly: Components such as waterflow alarm devices, control valves, and supervisory devices
🔹 Annually: Piping, fittings, hangers, bracing, signage, spare sprinklers, and other system components
🔹 Every 5 Years: Internal assessments of piping and inspections or testing of certain system components as required

Inspection schedules can vary based on the system and its components, which is why working with an experienced fire sprinkler professional is so important.

At Fire Sprinkler Services LLC, we provide commercial fire sprinkler inspections, testing, maintenance, and repairs to help keep your system compliant and ready to perform when needed.

🔥 You Never Know What Could Be Hiding Inside Your Fire Sprinkler System.

Would you ever expect to find a plastic soda bottle inside a fire sprinkler alarm valve? It may sound unbelievable, but larger debris and foreign objects can enter a system through the underground water supply and potentially create an obstruction.

The problem? You may never know it’s there until the system needs to operate.

That’s one reason 5-year internal inspections are so important. These inspections help identify potential obstructions, buildup, and foreign materials that could interfere with water flow and prevent your sprinkler system from performing as designed during a fire emergency.

At Fire Sprinkler Services LLC, we inspect, maintain, repair, and install commercial fire sprinkler systems throughout Louisiana and portions of East Texas.

Don’t wait until an emergency to find out there’s something blocking your system.

📞 Call Fire Sprinkler Services LLC at 318-752-3104 to discuss your system and find out when your next inspection is due.

🚨 Protect Your Fire Sprinklers Before it’s Too Late! 🚨

Have you ever stopped to think about what would happen if a piece of equipment, a runaway ladder, or a high-lofted box accidentally knocked into one of your fire sprinkler heads?

A damaged sprinkler head can trigger hundreds of gallons of high-pressure water in seconds causing severe property damage, inventory loss, and unnecessary downtime.

That’s where Sprinkler Head Guards come in. 🛠️

What are Sprinkler Head Guards?

Sprinkler head guards (or wire cages) are heavy-duty, protective steel wire enclosures designed to fit directly around exposed sprinkler heads. They act as a tough shield against high-impact bumps and accidental hits without interfering with the sprinkler water distribution pattern or heat response.

Where Are They Needed Most?

According to NFPA 13 standards, sprinkler head guards are required anywhere sprinkler heads are at risk of mechanical impact or physical damage. Common areas include:

📦 Warehouses & Storage Facilities (forklift & pallet hazard zones)
🏋️ Gymnasiums & Recreation Centers (stray balls & equipment)
🛠️ Mechanical Rooms & Basements (low ceilings & tight spaces)
🏫 Schools, Daycares & Youth Centers
📦 Retail Stockrooms & Freight Bays

Why Install Head Guards?

✅ Prevent Accidental Discharges: Save thousands of dollars in water damage.

✅ Ensure NFPA Compliance: Avoid safety violations and pass local fire inspections.

✅ Cost-Effective Peace of Mind: A tiny investment today prevents a massive repair bill tomorrow.

Don't wait for an accidental bump to flood your facility! Whether you need a few replacement cages or a full facility assessment, Fire Sprinkler Services has you covered.

🔥 Think Twice Before Painting Over a Fire Sprinkler Head

A fresh coat of paint can make a space look great, but your fire sprinkler heads should never be painted over.

Paint can interfere with the sprinkler head’s heat-sensitive components and prevent it from operating as designed. Even a small amount of paint can compromise the sprinkler head, potentially delaying activation when every second matters.

And unfortunately, you can’t simply scrape the paint off and call it good. A painted sprinkler head generally needs to be replaced by a qualified fire sprinkler professional, which may require shutting down and draining portions of the system to complete the work properly.

Whether you're painting, remodeling, or updating a commercial property, make sure your fire sprinkler heads are properly protected during the process.

Already have painted sprinkler heads or have questions about your system? Fire Sprinkler Services LLC can help with inspections, maintenance, repairs, and installation.

🔥 Schedule 10 vs. Schedule 40: What’s the Difference?

When it comes to fire sprinkler systems, the type of piping used matters. Two commonly used options are Schedule 10 and Schedule 40 steel pipe, and the biggest difference is wall thickness.

Schedule 10 Pipe
• Thinner walls
• Lighter weight
• Commonly used in many fire sprinkler applications
• Can be a more economical option depending on the system design

Schedule 40 Pipe
• Thicker walls
• More robust and durable
• Offers greater resistance to mechanical damage
• May be appropriate for applications requiring additional wall thickness or pressure capability

Choosing the right pipe isn't simply about picking the thicker option. Fire sprinkler piping should be selected based on the system design, application, code requirements, and applicable NFPA standards.

At Fire Sprinkler Services LLC, our goal is to make sure your fire protection system is properly designed, installed, and maintained for the building it protects.
