Celebration: July 28th, 2018 was declared Engine 50 Firehouse Day throughout the City of Boston

We are saddened to report that CDR Robert Gillen, 59th Commanding Officer of USS Constitution passed away this morning.

In addition to serving aboard CONSTITUTION, CDR Gillen led the “Pennies Campaign” that enabled “Old Ironsides” to sail in 1997. His contributions to CONSTITUTION are too numerous to catalog, since he served as an advisor to all subsequent commanding officers. He has been the driving force behind the fellowship enjoyed by the former commanding officers (FOCO’s).

CDR Gillen served on the Board of Overseers at the USS Constitution Museum, and participated in every patriotic activity in Charlestown - from the Bunker Hill Parade to the commemoration of Pearl Harbor hosted each year on USS CASSIN YOUNG with Boston National Historical Park, Massachusetts Department of Veterans' Services, and Boston Vets.

Our thoughts and prayers are with CDR Gillen and his family. Fair winds and following seas shipmate.

We lost two active duty officers this week. Please keep them,their families and all their friends/workmates in your your thoughts and prayers. We are saddened.
