Sport verbindet — across cultures! ⚽️🇩🇪

As we look forward to the upcoming FIFA World Cup, we were pleased to welcome Steffi Jones and Gerald Asamoah, two former pro German soccer players, to Boston. During their visit, they joined Soccer Without Borders for a training with local high schoolers.

Soccer Without Borders supports newcomer and immigrant youth to overcome barriers to participation in sport and to gain a sense of belonging. As two of Germany’s most prominent athletes of color, Jones and Asamoah spoke with players about belonging and overcoming adversity in professional sports.

Across cultures, across continents, and across generations: soccer brings the world together! 🌎

Today, we celebrate 77 years since the Basic Law (Grundgesetz), the constitution of the postwar German state, was enacted in 1949.

This year at the German Consulate, we started a tradition of providing all of our newly-naturalized citizens with a pocket copy of the Basic Law as a sign of Germany’s commitment to human rights, democracy, and the rule of law.

This year, Canada and Germany celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations. We took the opportunity to toast to the occasion with our colleagues from the Consulate General of Canada in Boston, our neighbors in New England and in the Copley Place office building!

Canada and Germany cooperate extensively to promote our common defense through NATO, uphold shared democratic values, and ensure mutual prosperity.

House Burping??? 👀 I think you mean Stoßlüften!!! 🤓😉

Jokes aside— you know that feeling when you open up your windows in spring for the first time in months? Germans do that year round, even on the coldest days! 🥶

The German habit of “Lüften” involves opening windows for a couple minutes every day throughout the year to bring fresh air into your home to improve indoor air quality.
