The mission of the CAC is to unite public, private and community partners to promote safety, healing and justice for child abuse victims and their families. We are Suffolk County’s frontline responders to reports of child sexual abuse, serious physical abuse, and commercial sexual exploitation of children under age 18. "Ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, local, state, federal, and community partners are working together to strengthen Massachusetts’ response to human trafficking before, during, and after the tournament." -MA Executive Office of Public Safety and Security

As MA will be hosting several World Cup matches at Gillette Stadium and countless large-scale viewing parties across the state, our CAC's Support to End Exploitation Now (SEEN) team has been working tirelessly to prepare for a potential increase in commercial sexual exploitation of children (CSEC). MA expects to see large crowds, an added burden on law enforcement partners, and increased anonymity for buyers and traffickers - and ultimately a higher demand for CSEC.

Our CAC is proud to be part of the well-established CSEC Multidisciplinary Response system that exists across MA, rooted in the state's 12 CACs, and to have contributed to the development of this infrastructure, as well as the trauma-informed response to child victims, over the past 20 years. The most vulnerable among us - children and youth - face some of the highest risks.

SEEN's World Cup preparations include collaborating with the MA Executive Office of Public Safety and Security's multi-agency working group to plan for a child-centered response, and to support frontline training, youth engagement, and public awareness.

Today officially concludes our 2026 Boston Marathon season and this year’s team joined the B.A.A. in making history!

With 10 marathoners — our largest team to date — Team Suffolk CAC raised more than $120,000 in support of children and families impacted by abuse, exploitation, and trauma. This marks the most successful marathon fundraising year in our organization’s history. Our runners were motivated, energized, and made this a season to remember!

We are incredibly grateful to our runners, donors, volunteers, and partners (Boston Athletic Association, Bank of America, BXP Inc.) who helped make this achievement possible.

The Boston Athletic Association also announced a record-breaking year for marathon fundraising overall. Read more in the attached press release!

Her work is not only about responding to trauma. It is about helping children and families believe in healing, in dignity, and in the possibility of moving forward." - Massachusetts Children's Alliance

After a decade of advocacy and brave survivors sharing their experiences, Senator Joan B. Lovely's Amendment 841, which protects youth from sexual assaults by adults in positions of authority or trust, passed unanimously in the Senate yesterday as part of the Senate FY‘27 budget debate.

The amendment will close a "legal gap" so that a person under age 18 cannot legally consent to sexual conduct with an adult who holds or has held supervisory or custodial authority over them in a school setting. "Power and trust make true consent impossible," Lovely said, noting district attorneys under existing law are unable to prosecute adults who exploit teenagers because it doesn't recognize "the inherent power imbalance."

This is a positive step towards Massachusetts joining the 40 states that already have these protections in place. Though more advocacy will be needed during the FY‘27 budget Conference Committee negotiations, we are celebrating this win for the survivors, advocates, and legislators who have been fighting for this for years.

We are grateful to WCVB Channel 5 Boston Investigative Reporter Karen Anderson for bringing survivor voices to the forefront in her coverage of this legislation since it was first introduced a decade ago.
